The Mid-America Christian women’s basketball team welcomes a coach that has won multiple national championships as Sydni Salvato joins the program as the Graduate Assistant Coach for the upcoming 2021-22 season.
Salvato comes to MACU after a four-year career as a student-assistant coach for NCAA Division II powerhouse Lubbock Christian, where she helped mentor a pair of NCAA D-II National Champions.
In the last four seasons alongside LCU Head Coach Steve Gomez, the Lady Chaps have amassed an incredible 114-10 (.919) overall record and along with winning two national championships, LCU has won four conference championships, two with the Heartland Conference and two with the Lone Star Conference after joining the league in 2019.
Salvato will be looking to continue to build upon the recent success of a MACU women’s basketball program that won back-to-back NCCAA Division I National Championships in 2018 and 2019 before winning its first ever Sooner Athletic Conference regular season title and being selected to its first ever NAIA National Championship Tournament in 2021.
This past season, Salvato got to be a part of history as the Lady Chaps closed out the season by winning the 2021 NCAA Division II National Championship with a 23-0 record, becoming the first NCAA D-II program to win two national championships with an undefeated record.
Salvato also was a part of the 2019 NCAA D-II National Championship team that went 32-5 as Lubbock Christian defeated Southwestern Oklahoma State 95-85 in double overtime in the championship game on Mar. 29, 2019. Overall, the Lady Chaps made it to three Elite Eights during Salvato’s tenure in Lubbock.
Salvato earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Exercise & Sport Science from Lubbock Christian this spring and will be pursuing a Master’s Degree in Leadership from Mid-America Christian.
