Kyle Barrett is making his way into his second season as the Associate Head Coach of the MACU baseball program in 2025, primarily serving as the program's pitching coach as well as his fifth year overall with the program.
During the 2024 campaign, Barrett helped lead MACU to its most successful season in program history. The Evangels ended the year with a 41-13 overall record, including a 20-4 record in Sooner Athletic Conference play to capture both the program's first SAC Championship as well as the team's first SAC Tournament title with a 12-6 victory over Oklahoma City at Bill Smith Ballpark in Chickasha, Oklahoma on May 7. As the result, MACU earned its first ever bid to the NAIA National Championship Tournament while also ending the year with its highest ranking ever in the NAIA Top 25 Coaches' Poll at No.11
It was especially a banner year for a MACU pitching staff that finished as one of the best in the nation, ending the 2024 campaign with the sixth-lowest ERA (3.99) and 10th-lowest WHIP (1.35) in the entire NAIA. Under Barrett's tutelage, MACU earned its first ever NAIA All-American selection in senior staring pitcher Isaac Baez garnering Third Team honors while also tallying a pair of Academic All-Americans in senior right-handed pitchers Cameron Brown and Zane Robeaux tallying Second Team acclaim.
In 2023, Barrett played a vital role in mentoring MACU's pitching staff as the team finished the year with a 39-17 overall record, a 15-9 mark in Sooner Athletic Conference play and won the program's first ever NCCAA World Series title with a 3-2 victory over Southwestern Christian in 10 innings on May 23.
MACU wrapped up the season with a 5.14 team ERA, the third-lowest for the program since joining the NAIA in 2008 as well as the third-lowest ERA in the SAC. The Evangels also tallied a record 11 saves and the second-most complete-game shutouts with four. The MACU pitching staff also put together an astounding strikeout-to-walk ratio with the fourth-most punchouts in a season with 380 to tallying a record-low 118 walks to a 3.1-to-1 K/BB ratio.
During the 2022 campaign, the Evangels amassed a stellar 32-22 overall record and closed out the year with its first .500 or better record in SAC play at 12-12. As a result, MACU qualified for its first ever NCCAA World Series and picked up a 19-10 win over Carolina (N.C.) on May 21 for the program's first ever World Series win.
As a squad, MACU wrapped up the year with the program's fourth-lowest ERA in the NAIA at 5.77 to go with the second-most shutouts (4), the second-most saves (8) and just the program's third 400-plus strikeout season at 407.
In his first season with the program in 2021, the Evangels closed out the year with a 24-26 overall record and a 10-14 mark against SAC squads.
However, the Evangels put together a solid season on the bump, notching the program's fifth-lowest ERA in the NAIA Era at 5.85 with a record five shutouts while striking out the second-most batters in the MACU record books with 438.
Barrett came to MACU after serving as the Associate Head Coach of the University of Antelope Valley for the past year, an NAIA institution located in Lancaster, California.
In his lone season as the UAV's Associate Head Coach, Barrett guided the Pioneers to a 16-13 record and a 7-2 record in the California Pacific Conference. Before being promoted, Barrett served as the Pitching Coach and Recruiting Coordinator for the Pioneers since 2016, building upon a program that won four straight CalPac Conference Championships from 2016 through 2019.
Barrett mentored the 2018 UAV team to an appearance in the NAIA World Series, as the Pioneers closed out the year with a 46-14 record. It was the winningest season for the program since becoming an NAIA institution in 2014. In his five seasons at Antelope Valley, the Pioneers accumulated a 172-78 (.688) overall record.
Prior to coaching Antelope Valley, Barrett served as the Assistant Pitching Coach for the NAIA and NCCAA Division II affiliated Fresno Pacific (Calif.) Sunbirds from 2012 to 2015. Barrett guided a pair of NCCAA World Series Championship teams in 2014 and 2015 while coaching two PacWest All-Americans, including the West Region Pitcher of the Year.
FPU won the NCCAA World Series in his final season, accumulating a record of 39-18-1, repeating its championship win in 2014 after completing a 39-19 season.
Barrett competed for the Sunbirds in 2012, tossing four innings and recording a save before becoming an Undergraduate Coach in 2013. Barrett also competed for two seasons at Modesto Community College before transferring to Fresno Pacific to close out his collegiate pitching career.
