Evangels Score Season-High 15 Goals In Victory Over Oklahoma Panhandle State

NORMAN, Okla. – The Mid-America Christian women's soccer team had its strongest offensive showing of the season by scoring the second-most goals in program history to defeat Oklahoma Panhandle State 15-0 on Saturday afternoon at Royal Field.

Junior midfielder Sylvie Willie tied the MACU single game scoring program record with a career-high five goals, matching Kaci Powers mark set in an 8-0 victory over Texas College on Sept. 17, 2015. Aridna Ramirez also scored a career-high four goals in the contest while Liz Lozano added to her team-lead with a pair, giving her 12 goals on the season.

It didn't take long for Mid-America Christian (10-3-1, 5-1-1 Sooner Athletic Conference) to get on the board as redshirt freshman forward Kyleigh Gibson put the game-winner through the right side on a cross from Paolo Camacho with just 1:19 expired.

Less than 30 seconds later, Lozano notched her first goal of the match after a tackle and breakaway down the left side, firing a shot past the keeper to extend the lead to 2-nil. The junior forward from Aguascalientes, Mexico added to it with her second during the 11th minute to extend the Evangels advantage to three.

Ramirez and Willie stole the show for the remainder of the half, with each scoring a pair over the final 30 minutes to give MACU a 7-nil lead into the halftime break.

Camacho and Alex White scored two more in the first four minutes of the second half while Aimee Bland tallied her fourth goal of the season during the 66th minute.

Ramirez and Willie once again dominated in final portion of the second half by scoring five of the final six MACU goals.

The final goal of the match was Willie's milestone goal with just over 11 minutes left after Bland found her from the middle streaking down the left side and placing another shot just inside the left post.

As a team, Mid-America Christian outshot Oklahoma Panhandle State 42-1 while effectively placing 27 shots on-goal.

Willie led the offensive attack with eight shots with seven being on-target while Lopez Cordero tallied seven shots with three being on-goal.

The Evangels' 15-goal effort was the most goals scored in a single match since tallying 14 in the 2017 season opener against Manhattan Christian College on Aug. 29, 2017. The only match where MACU scored more came on Sept. 11, 2017 in an 18-0 rout against Dallas Christian.

With just two matches remaining in the regular season, Mid-America Christian is still in the hunt for a Sooner Athletic Conference Championship and will get the opportunity to challenge for it next week. The Evangels will travel Siloam Springs, Ark. to take on No. 6 John Brown at 5 p.m. for their final regular season road match of 2019.
