OKLAHOMA CITY – The No. 21 Mid-America Christian men's soccer team will be seeking its 10th win of the season on Tuesday as the Evangels will host Bacone College at 4 p.m. in their final non-conference match of the 2019 season.
LAST TIME OUT
Mid-America Christian (9-1, 3-0 Sooner Athletic Conference) picked up its second conference road win of the season on Saturday, defeating Central Christian 2-0. Senior forward Allan Sorato scored his fifth goal of the season and his first game-winning goal on a left-side cross from Endri Copa in the fourth minute. Simon Wieschemann added some insurance for the Evangels in the 88th minute, converting on his second penalty kick goal of the season to seal the victory.
SCOUTING THE WARRIORS
Bacone makes its way into Tuesday with an 0-4 record on the season. The Warriors are coming off a 16-0 loss at the University of Science & Arts on Oct. 1. It's been a tough season for Bacone heading into the match, as they have yet to score a goal in the previous four contests while giving up a 20.3 goals per match.
HISTORY WITH THE WARRIORS
MACU holds a 7-2 edge over their former Sooner Athletic Conference rivals. The last time the two teams met was on Oct. 6, 2018 as the Evangels came away with a 6-0 victory in Muskogee, Okla. after outshooting the Warriors 29-2 in the match.
ONE IS THE LONLIEST NUMBER
In the Evangels' 2-0 victory over Central Christian, MACU held the Tigers to just one off-target shot. In the defensive effort, the one shot allowed tied the program record for the fewest shots allowed in a single game. The last time the Evangels held an opponent to just one shot came in a 4-0 victory over Southwestern College (Kan.) on Sept. 15, 2012. It was only the third time in MACU history that just one shot was allowed, with the other occurring against LSU-Shreveport on Aug. 29, 2009. The last time Mid-America Christian didn't allow a shot on-goal came against McMurry in the NCCAA Central Region Tournament as the Evangels gave up just two off-target shots in the 2-0 first round win on Nov. 15, 2017.
VYING FOR WIESCHEMANN ON PK'S
On Mid-America Christian penalty kicks this season, junior defender Simon Wieschemann has been automatic. Wieschemann has taken both of MACU's penalty kicks during the 2019 season and has converted on both after making his 88th minute shot against Central Christian on Saturday. The Frankfurt, Germany native also scored on a penalty kick in a 9-0 victory over Oklahoma Baptist on Sept. 23.
