Women’s Soccer Set To Host Final Non-Conference Match Against Bacone

OKLAHOMA CITY – After picking up its first Sooner Athletic Conference win of the season, the Mid-America Christian women's soccer team is preparing for its final non-conference match of the 2019 season as the Evangels will host former conference rival Bacone College at 2 p.m. on Tuesday.

LAST TIME OUT

Mid-America Christian (5-3-1, 1-1-1 SAC) picked up its first SAC victory in dramatic fashion on Saturday, as Kyleigh Gibson scored the game-winning goal in the 88th minute to propel the Evangels to a 4-3 win at Central Christian. Gibson tallied a pair of goals in the match with the first and last scores to go with an assist while Liz Lozano and Sylvie Willie each netted scores in the win.

SCOUTING THE WARRIORS

Bacone enters Tuesday's match with an 0-4 record in the 2019 season. The last time the Braves were in-action, they fell 11-0 to No. 8 Science & Arts in Chickasha, Okla. on Tuesday, Oct. 1.

The Warriors have struggled during the 2019 season, being outscored 38-1 in their first four matches. The lone goal scorer for the Warriors this season is Alyssa Rankin, tallying the goal in a 6-1 loss at Paul Quinn on Sept. 5.

HISTORY WITH THE WARRIORS

MACU holds a 7-2 edge in the all-time series against Bacone, including winning the last seven meetings. The last time the two teams met was in Muskogee, Okla. on Oct. 6, 2018 as the Evangels came away with a 1-0 victory.

GREAT GIBSON

In the Central Christian win, redshirt freshman forward Kyleigh Gibson recorded her first five-point match of her career with a pair of goals and an assist. The redshirt freshman forward from Moore, Okla. added her team-lead with eight goals, recorded her third multi-goal match of the season as well as scored her third game-winning goal of the season. Gibson also recorded her first career assist in the match, finding Liz Lozano on a cross from the right side in the 25th minute. Gibson is putting together a banner year for the Evangels, as she is currently in a tie for fourth for the most goals per match at .89 along with Kassie Bird's 2010 mark.

WHAT A DIFFERENCE A YEAR MAKES

After winning just six matches a season ago, Mid-America Christian is on the cusp of tying that mark tomorrow against Bacone. The last time the Evangels won six of their first 10 matches was during the 2017 campaign, as MACU qualified for the NCCAA Tournament and won the Central Region, finishing the year with a 12-9 record overall record.
