OKLAHOMA CITY – The Mid-America Christian women's soccer team broke the program shots record as the Evangels came away with an 11-0 non-conference victory over Bacone College on Tuesday.
Mid-America Christian (6-3-1) attempted 72 shots in the match, breaking the previous MACU record of 59 shots attempted in an 8-0 win at Texas College on Sept. 17, 2015.
Eight different Evangels netted goals, led by Aimee Bland, Liz Lozano and Ariadna Ramirez two goals apiece.
Mid-America Christian was able to go on the attack early in the match, attempting 15 shots in the first 21 minutes before Bayleigh Fink notched the first goal in that 21st minute. Fink was able to track down a loose ball in the box after Kelsey Henry's previous shot bounced off the crossbar, tallying her fourth goal of the season.
It didn't take long for the Evangels to add a second as Lozano pushed across her first goal of the game 17 seconds later, firing in a shot from the left side after receiving a cross from Kyleigh Gibson.
Five minutes later, senior midfielder Paola Camacho netted her first goal of the 2019 season following a Veronica Lopez Cordero cross from the left side with 19:47 on the clock.
The Evangels went into the halftime break with a three-goal advantage, outshooting the Warriors by a 36-0 margin in the opening half.
It didn't take long for MACU to get its first goal of the second half as Lozano tallied her second goal of the match off a Gibson assist from right side to the center of the box, making it 4-nil Evangels.
In the 49th minute, Sylvie Willie cracked into the box score with her third goal of the season when Henry found her on the left side of the box on a beautiful touch pass from the middle, extending the MACU edge to five.
With 37:16 left in the match, the Evangels leading scorer on the season Kyleigh Gibson was able to tally a goal in the contest after tracking down a deflected ball and firing it in from five yards out on the right side, setting the score to 6-0.
Ramirez not only scored her first goal of the season in the 63rd minute, but she notched a pair of scores after converting on a penalty kick goal in the 77th minute as well.
Bland was also able to crack into the score column twice in the final 20 minutes of regulation, tallying her second goal of the season in the 72nd minute and then converting on the Evangels' final goal of the match in the 88th minute.
In her third year with the program, Ana Luiza Rodrigues scored her first career goal for MACU following a Willie assist on a pass from the left side, slipping a shot into the left corner to give the Evangels a 10-0 lead at the 76:40 mark.
On top of breaking the Evangels shot record, MACU placed 39 shots on-goal, the second-best mark in program history, finishing only behind the 40 on-target shots in that Texas College match in 2015. The 11 goals scored against Bacone (0-5) also set the third-most goal scored in a single match in the program's history, the most since the Evangels defeated the Warriors in a 12-0 contest on Oct. 10, 2017.
Bland led the MACU offensive efforts with nine total shots with four being placed on-goal while Rodrigues chipped in eight shots, seven of which were on-target.
Jennifer Starwalt picked up her second shutout of the season, needing to make only one save in the match.
Mid-America Christian will return to Sooner Athletic Conference play on Saturday as the Evangels will be back at home to take on Southwestern Assemblies of God for a 1 p.m. match.
