Women’s Soccer Falls To No. 10 John Brown In Regular Season Finale

SILOAM SPRINGS, Ark. – The Mid-America Christian women's soccer team had a tough finish in its regular season finale as No. 10 John Brown scored four second half goals to hand the Evangels a 5-1 loss on Tuesday night at Alumni Field.

Junior defender Marga Franco scored Mid-America Christian's (11-4-1, 6-2-1 Sooner Athletic Conference) lone goal, an equalizer in the 61st minute, but John Brown (12-3-2, 7-1-1 SAC) retaliated with a pair of goals in the following minute to pull away with the win.

Despite getting outshot by an 11-3 margin in the first half, the Evangels were able to clamp down and limit the Golden Eagles to just one goal in the 13th minute to trail by just a 1-0 margin heading into the halftime break.

The Evangels were struggling to generate any offense until Ariadna Ramirez was able to find Franco and she buried a shot into the top left corner to lock the score up at 1-all.

However, the game would not be remained tied for long as JBU's Anne Metz and Megan Hutto scored goals within 31 seconds of each other at the 61:19 and 61:50 marks to take a 3-1 advantage. John Brown scored two more goals before the end of regulation to close out the match with the 5-1 win.

The Golden Eagles outshot the Evangels by a 19-4 margin and a 9-2 edge in shots on-goal. Four different MACU players recorded their shots with Franco and Brooklyn Fink being the only players to place an on-target shot.

With the loss and a Texas Wesleyan win, Mid-America Christian will enter the Sooner Athletic Conference Tournament as the No. 4 seed and will host its crosstown rival, fifth-seeded Oklahoma City at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 9. The match is just the second SAC Tournament match the Evangels have ever hosted with the last coming in a first round win over Oklahoma Baptist on Nov. 6, 2010.
