Box Score MOORE, Okla. – The No. 18 Mid-America Christian men's basketball team didn't have to travel far for its first official road game of the season as the Evangels were able to come away with a 71-53 victory over the 2019 NCCAA Division II Consolation Champion Randall on Saturday.
Junior guard Tony Dorsey led Mid-America Christian (5-0) with 19 points on 7-of-10 shooting from the field, 2-for-5 from the three-point arc and ripped down six rebounds to go with two assists and two steals. Seniors Ashford Golden and Cedric Wright narrowly missed out on double-doubles with 16 points and nine rebounds apiece to lead the Evangels on the glass.
The Evangels had to overcome a slow start as Randall (1-4) opened the game with a 12-5 run over the first 5:11 to grab the early advantage. After the Saints extended their lead to seven, Dorsey jumpstart the MACU offense on the ensuing possession with a three as the Evangels rattled off nine unanswered. Golden converted a layup with 13:01 to go to cap the run and give the Evangels the 14-12 edge.
Randall was able to stay within a few possessions until the 5:28 mark, but with MACU leading 26-24, Wright made a layup to start a 10-4 run to close out the first half with the 36-28 lead..
The Saints were able to keep the deficit to within eight through the first five minutes before another Dorsey score started an 11-1 streak as a Terrance Jones layup with 11:55 to go extended the Evangels lead to 52-34.
Randall was able to trim the gap to 12 on a pair of occasions, but the Evangels were able to contain the Saints as Mid-America Christian held RU to just eight points in the final 7:28 to cruise to a 71-53 victory.
The Evangels put together their finest defensive performance of the season, limiting the Saints to just 19-for-70 (27.1 percent) shooting and 8-of-33 (24.2 percent) from the three-point arc while outrebounding RU by a 47-37 margin.
Meanwhile, MACU converted on 27-of-57 (47.4 percent) of its shots while knocking down 10-of-16 (62.5 percent) from the charity stripe.
Mid-America Christian will be back on the road again next week as the Evangels will head to Espanola, N.M. on Wednesday, Nov. 13 for an 8 p.m. tip against Northern New Mexico College.
