Mid-America Christian Welcomes Holly McKamie To Volleyball Staff

OKLAHOMA CITY – Coming off one of the most successful seasons in program history, Mid-America Christian University Athletic Director Marcus Moeller and Head Volleyball Coach Kevin Fitzgibbon are proud to announce the addition of Holly McKamie as the new Assistant Coach of the MACU Volleyball program.

"Adding Coach McKamie to our MACU family is an incredible blessing," said Moeller. "This is a necessary and tremendous next step for our volleyball program. Our players are going to be the biggest benefactors of Coach McKamie's presence on our campus and I couldn't be more excited to have her on our team."

"I am very excited to have Holly join the MACU volleyball family," Fitzgibbon added. "She has a great reputation in the volleyball community with over a decade of coaching experience and has consistently demonstrated her ability to produce high level players from scratch."

McKamie comes to Mid-America Christian after a phenomenal run as the head of the Oklahoma City Storm, a Christian-based sports organization for homeschooled student-athletes. McKamie is also the coach of the Oklahoma Charge Volleyball Club 13's team, a highly competitive traveling squad.

"I am thankful that I have had the opportunity to live out my dream of coaching this sport that I love so much," said McKamie. "When I was in sixth grade, I knew that I wanted to be a volleyball coach when I grew up and I feel God has been preparing me for MACU for many years."

McKamie brings a championship pedigree to MACU from the OKC Storm, leading the program to three straight Homeschool National Championships. The Storm won the 16's Division in 2017, the Class 4A championship in 2018 and the Undisputed Home School National Championship in 2019. The Storm compete against some of the top public and private school volleyball teams in the state of Oklahoma.

For the past 12 years, McKamie has coached both high school and club volleyball for girls and boys, and her teams have won many tournaments over the years. Coaching every age group from 13 through 18 has provided her with a strong understanding of the sport.

McKamie also has 12 years of high school and college volleyball officiating experience and now mentors other officials in their careers. McKamie's time as a volleyball official has presented her with an even deeper knowledge of the game.

"Eventually, I was officiating volleyball matches at MACU, and now I find myself coaching here," McKamie added. "Looking back, I can see how the seed that was planted has been watered and nurtured while preparing me with years of experience in coaching."

McKamie will be joining a MACU volleyball program that is coming off a 15-14 season after making its first ever appearance at the NCCAA Division I National Championships. It was MACU's first trip to nationals overall since competing at the NCCAA Division II National Championships during the 2004 season.

MACU turned in its first win at the national tournament since 2003, sweeping Piedmont International (25-15, 25-11, 25-23) in pool play at the College of the Ozarks in Point Lookout, Mo. on Dec. 6.

The Evangels also put together their first ever winning record in Sooner Athletic Conference play since joining the league in 2007, going 12-8 and finishing fifth in the conference standings.

"I am excited for the opportunity to coach at a place that I have prayed over for the past 25 years," McKamie added. "Of course, I am thrilled to be coaching collegiate volleyball, but what I enjoy the most is building relationships with the players whom I encounter and pointing them to Jesus."

As the assistant coach, McKamie will be tasked with overall day-to-day operations, equipment and finance management, oversight and serve as the team's academic coordinator.

In 1998, McKamie graduated with honors with a Bachelor's Degree in Physical Education at Oklahoma Wesleyan University. McKamie was the starting setter for the Eagles volleyball team in all four seasons, while also competing on the women's basketball team for four seasons, starting at guard in three of those campaigns. During her tenure, she received numerous academic and athletic awards, while competing in three NCCAA Division I National Championships.

McKamie has been married for 22 years and has three children.  The gym is her second home, but in her spare time, McKamie enjoys snow skiing, camping, bike riding, hiking, playing board games and spending time with her family.
