Women’s Soccer Seeking To Right The Ship At Wayland Baptist

OKLAHOMA CITY – After giving No. 11 Science & Arts its toughest challenge of the season in a 3-1 loss, the Mid-America Christian women's soccer team will look to get back on the winning track as the Evangels head to Plainview, Texas to take on Wayland Baptist at 4 p.m. on Tuesday.

LAST TIME OUT

Despite suffering a loss to the Drovers on Friday, Mid-America Christian (4-3, 0-1 Sooner Athletic Conference) did not go down without a fight. The Evangels held the Drovers to just one goal in the opening half and freshman defender Brooklyn Fink scored just the second goal Science & Arts (9-0, 1-0 SAC) conceded all season with a 71st minute blast from 40 yards out on the left side that went through the keeper's hands and into the top half of the goal.

Mid-America Christian held the Drovers to a season-low three goals scored while the two-goal separation is the tightest contest USAO has played so far during the 2019 campaign.

SCOUTING THE PIONEERS

Wayland Baptist makes its way into the week with a 4-1-1 record and won its SAC opener 10-0 over Oklahoma Panhandle State last week.

The Pioneers offensive attack is led by senior forward Taylor Moore. The former SAC All-First Team selection has scored a team-high seven goals, which ranks third in the SAC to go with 15 points.

On the defensive end, freshman keeper Jessie Rivera has made the last three starts in-goal. The Deltona, Fla. native has gone 2-1 in her three starts, pitching a pair of shutouts and making 11 saves.

HISTORY WITH THE PIONEERS

The Evangels and Pioneers have been equally matched since first playing each other in 2007, with the all-time series split right down the middle at 6-6-2 in their 14 matches.

Mid-America Christian will be looking to avenge a loss to Wayland Baptist last season as the Pioneers came away from Evangel Field with a 2-1 win on Sept. 29, 2018. The last time the two teams meet in Plainview, the Evangels dominated the Pioneers with a 6-0 victory on Sept. 26, 2017.

FINK KEEPS FIRING

After her sister Bayleigh Fink scored her first collegiate goal three weeks ago against Bethel College, Brooklyn Fink was the offensive focal point in the second half against the Drovers. Fink's second half goal was her first goal in her MACU career and she refused to give up on the attack, firing a team-high four shots and putting two on-target. In the previous six matches combined, the Moore, Okla. native attempted just five shots and put three on-goal.

WEATHERING THE STORM

Tuesday's match start time could be subject to change with storms rolling into the Plainview, Texas area Monday night and continuing into Tuesday.
