No. 2 Men’s Basketball Dominates Randall In First Road Win Of Season

MOORE, Okla. – The No. 2 Mid-America Christian men's basketball team looked sharp in its first road contest of the season as the Evangels picked up their biggest win in Randall since 2014 with a 103-79 victory over the Saints on Monday night.

GAME SUMMARY
  • 1st Half
    • Mid-America Christian (4-0) set the tone in the early going. After hold a 6-4 edge through the first 2:20, the Evangels strung together a 13-2 run over the next three minutes, capping it off on a Terrance Jones layup to extend the MACU lead to 19-6 with 14:23 to go.
    • The Evangels stretched the advantage to 16 on an Omar Boone triple and Derrick Magiya layup to make it 26-10 before the Saints cut the lead down to 32-22 with 8:41 remaining after scoring 12 of the following 18 points.
    • MACU regained the momentum behind another Boone three as the Evangels utilized a 19-8 run to extend the edge back out to 51-30 with 3:04 left.
    • Randall scored eight of the next nine to cut their deficit down 14, but the Evangels were able to head into the locker room on a high note when Malik Malone tracked down an offensive rebound and hit a fadeaway jumper at the buzzer to send MACU into the locker room with a 54-38 lead.
  • 2nd Half
    • Randall managed to keep it within striking distance early in the second half as the two teams were fairly even coming out of the break, but a steal and Brent Clark fastbreak dunk trimmed the MACU advantage to 59-44 only 2:07 in.
    • After five straight Toni Kumanovic points off a three-pointer from the right wing and a fast break pull-up jumper brought the Evangels' edge back up to 20 at 68-48 with 14:35 to go, Randall once again started chipping away before a Jordan Marshall three from the right side cut the Saints deficit to 74-60 with just over 12 minutes remaining.
    • A three-point splash from Jasiah Lewis ignited the Evangels perimeter shooting with 12 of MACU's 14 points coming from range during a 14-4 run, swelling Mid-America Christian's lead to 91-66 with 9:06 on the clock. Lewis knocked down two of the four triples while Boone and Caleb Riggs each chipped in one along with a Marvin Lowe layup during the run.
    • A strong Magiya lay-in with three minutes remaining gave the Evangels their largest lead of the contest at 99-70 before the Saints closed out the game by scoring nine of the final 13 to wrap-up the 103-79 final.
 

GAME NOTES
  • Mid-America Christian shot well from the field, knocking down 36-of-73 (49.3 percent) of its shots and burying 14-for-34 (41.2 percent) from three. However, the Evangels struggled from the foul line, converting just 17-of-29 (58.6 percent).
  • While the Evangels held Randall to 30-of-75 (40 percent) shooting, the perimeter defense particular frustrated the Saints, holding RU to only 4-for-23 (17.4 percent) from beyond the three-point arc.
  • MACU held a slight 44-42 edge in the rebounding battle while committing only 13 turnovers to Randall's 15. The Evangels blocked a season-high six shots as well as tied its previous best of nine steals in the win.
  • The 24-point margin of victory for Mid-America Christian was the team's largest at Randall since coming away with a 108-65 win back on Nov. 7, 2014.
  • Terrance Jones led five Evangels into double-figures, notching his second double-double of the season and his fourth with MACU, totaling 23 points and 12 rebounds to go with five assists, two steals and a block.
  • Omar Boone continued to play well off the MACU bench, scoring 15 points on 5-of-8 shooting and went 3-for-5 from three to go with five assists.
  • Damarius Brooks added 13 points while Marvin Lowe finished 11 points and six rebounds with Dominick Ford rounding out the double-digit scorers with 10 points, eight rebounds, two steals and two blocks.
 

NEXT UP
  • Mid-America Christian will be back on the road on Thursday, Nov. 19 as the Evangels will head to McPherson, Kansas to take on Central Christian in a non-conference game. Tip-off is tentatively scheduled for 7:45 p.m.
