Volleyball Drops First Road Match At Oklahoma Panhandle State

GOODWELL, Okla. – For the first time this season, the Mid-America Christian volleyball team lost its second straight match and its first match on the road as the Evangels fell in straight sets to Oklahoma Panhandle State at the Anchor D Arena on Friday night.

MATCH SUMMARY
  • Set One
    • Mid-America Christian found itself down early as Oklahoma Panhandle State scored on four of the first five rallies. The Evangels fought back midway through on a three unanswered run of their own, featuring kills from Allison Porter and Desiree Brewer to cut the deficit to 12-11.
    • The Aggies answered right back with a 5-1 run to extend the lead back to 17-12. OPSU maintained a five-point edge before closing out with a string of five straight to secure the 25-15 win.
  • Set Two
    • The middle set was a back-and-forth affair with both teams exchanging early leads. After Panhandle State scored four of the first five, the Evangels stormed back with four straight to take a 5-4 lead and force the Aggies to call a timeout.
    • The two teams exchanged 3-0 runs and after the two teams drew it out to a 9-all tie, the Evangels were able to get some breathing room by winning five of the next seven behind a pair of kills from Faith Foutch and Hanna Foecker.
    • MACU maintained a three-point edge over the next four rallies, but the Aggies charged from behind and pulled away late in the set by outscoring the Evangels 12-3 down the stretch, handing MACU a tough 25-19 defeat.
  • Set Three
    • Foecker was able to get a couple of kills during an early run to give the Evangels a 5-4 edge, but the Aggies responded with run of five unanswered take a 10-6 advantage.
    • OPSU expanded its lead to as much as six at 16-10 before the Evangels utilized some strong blocking during a 5-0 run to close the gap to 16-15.
    • However, Panhandle State was able to score on three straight rallies to get some breathing room and kept the Evangels from climbing any closer than three the rest of the way to hold on for the 25-20 win.
 

MATCH NOTES
  • Mid-America Christian struggled against the Oklahoma Panhandle State defense, as the Evangels hit for their second-lowest attack percentage of the season at .060 while the Aggies recorded 12 blocks.
  • OPSU finished with 35 kills on a .272 attack percentage, which was the highest rate the Evangels defense had given up this season.
  • While Hanna Foecker performed well with a team-high 14 kills on a .360 attack percentage, the Evangels had a hard time finding offense outside of the 6-2 outside hitter as the rest of the team could only muster 19 kills on a -.034 clip.
 

 
NEXT UP
  • Mid-America Christian will look to get back on the winning track on Friday, Nov. 13 as the Evangels will return to the Gaulke Activity Center for their final home match of 2020. MACU will face off against Southwestern Assemblies of God for a 7 p.m. first serve.
