OKLAHOMA CITY – The Mid-America Christian softball team recorded its third doubleheader sweep of the season on Friday afternoon at Jack Allen Field as the Evangels tossed a pair of shutouts, winning game one 11-0 before closing out with an 8-0 victory over Southwestern (Kan.).
GAME ONE
Mid-America Christian (5-0) scored early and often in the opening game, tallying nine runs in the first inning with 15 batters coming to the plate. Olivia Roberts opened the scoring by hitting a two RBI single with the bases loaded to give MACU the 2-0 edge.
Camenda Osborn followed with an RBI double, Faith Hollingsworth banged a SAC fly to right and Kylie Stubbs smacked an RBI double to deep left center to push the lead to 5-0.
The Evangels capped off the scoring on RBI singles by Ribbin Dorado and Jessica Holt as well as a two RBI single by Hannah Salmon to bring the score to 9-0.
MACU added one more in the bottom of the second on a single through the hole at short to score Caitlin Butler to extend the Evangels advantage to double-digits at 10-0.
Stubbs closed out the scoring in the bottom of the third with a single to right to bring in Brook Hendrickson.
Evangels starter McKenzie Smith pitched four scoreless innings, giving up four hits and two walks while Regan Martin saw her first action of the season tossing a scoreless fifth with a hit and a strikeout.
Mid-America Christian scored its 11 runs on 12 hits and didn't commit any errors while Southwestern only rattled off five hits and committed one miscue.
Holt, Roberts, Osborn and Stubbs each recorded two hits apiece while Salmon, Roberts and Stubbs each tallied two RBIs to lead the MACU bats.
GAME TWO
Mid-America Christian (6-0) had another dominant showing in game two, but Southwestern (1-5) provided a more of a challenge.
The Evangels pushed across their first run in the bottom of the first on an error committed by the Moundbuilders' centerfielder, that allowed Salmon to score from second to make it a 1-0 ballgame.
MACU got two more in the bottom of the second. After Hollingsworth reached on a walk and Stubbs doubled to left to put runners at second and third, Butler brought them both in with a single to left to extend the MACU edge to 3-0.
Mid-America Christian got two more in the bottom of the fourth off a Southwestern error to bring the score to 5-0.
In the bottom of the fifth, Roberts recorded MACU's first home run of the season with a two-run blast to center and Cailey Parcells ended the game with a double to left-center to complete the walk-off via the eight-run rule.
The Evangels recorded their eight runs on nine hits and played a clean defensive game while Southwestern notched five hits and committed two errors.
Butler and Roberts led the MACU bats with three RBIs apiece, as Butler went 2-for-2 and Roberts slashed 1-for-3 with a run.
Adrienne Phillips moved to 3-0 on the season after tossing five complete, sacrificing just five hits with no walks and one strikeout.
Mid-America Christian will continue its home stand on Tuesday, Feb. 25 as the Evangels will host Oklahoma Wesleyan for a doubleheader. The twin bill is slated to start at 1 p.m. at Jack Allen Field.
