OKLAHOMA CITY – The Sooner Athletic Conference announced its first volleyball weekly awards of the 2020-21 season on Monday and for the first time in program history, the Mid-America Christian volleyball team swept all three of the SAC Player of the Week awards.
Senior libero Maegan Plunk was selected as the SAC Defender of the Week for the second time in her Evangels career while senior outside hitter Hanna Foecker collected her second SAC Attacker of the Week accolade and redshirt junior Ryann Hale brought home her first SAC Setter of the Week honor.
In Mid-America Christian's lone match of the week at Oklahoma Wesleyan on Sept. 14, Plunk found herself atop of the program record books. Leading the Evangels to a 3-2 (25-23, 25-23, 20-25, 25-27, 15-11) upset victory, Plunk finished the match with 46 digs to shatter the Evangels single match record. The effort eclipsed an over 10-year-old record of 38 that was held by Shelbi Johnson set in a match at Friends (Kan.) on Oct. 9, 2010.
The Rowlett, Texas native's previous career-best came on Aug. 24, 2019 when she turned in 36 in a five-set loss to Red River Athletic Conference Champion Huston-Tillotson.
Foecker also found herself atop of the MACU record books once again as well as she recorded her fifth 20-plus kill match in her second year with the Evangels. With 90 attack attempts in the match, the Sudlohn, Germany product surpassed her own MACU record of 82 that was also set against Huston-Tillotson a season ago.
In her return to the starting lineup, Hale was the primary catalyst of the Evangels attack against the Eagles by recording a career-high 26 assists while also turning in a game-high four aces from the service line.
Mid-America Christian will look to keep its road momentum going in Wichita, Kansas tomorrow night as the Evangels will face Bethel (Kan.) and Friends (Kan.) in a tri-match. MACU will open up against the Threshers at 5 p.m. before closing out the meet with a 7 p.m. match against the Falcons.
