GREENVILLE, S.C. – Coming off her record-setting performance against Oklahoma Wesleyan last week, senior libero Maegan Plunk was tabbed as the NCCAA Division I Volleyball Student-Athlete of the Week.
The Rowlett, Texas native helped propel MACU to a dramatic five-set upset over the Eagles on Sept. 14 with her 46 digs, eclipsing the previous record of 38 digs set by Shelbi Johnson against Friends (Kan.) on Oct. 9, 2010.
Since the NCCAA started tracking the stat in 2017, Plunk's 46 digs are tied for the second-most in a single match with Lancaster Bible's Myranda Kemrer which was set against Galludet on Oct. 26, 2017. Plunk finished just four behind Seleni Bartli of Ottawa's record mark of 50 recorded against Hope International on Oct. 13, 2018.
Through the first three matches of the season, Plunk currently ranks third in the NCCAA with a 6.54 digs per set average while also ranking fifth nationally at the NAIA level.
Plunk is the first Evangels volleyball player to be tabbed with NCCAA Student-Athlete of the Week honors since Hannah Lynch collected the accolade on August 30, 2016.
Mid-America Christian will be back in-action tomorrow as the Evangels will travel to Wichita, Kansas to take on Bethel (Kan.) and Friends (Kan.) in a road tri-match. MACU will open with a 5 p.m. matchup with the Threshers before closing out with a 7 p.m. game against the host Falcons.
