Volleyball Sweeps Central Christian in SAC Road Clash

MCPHERSON, Kan. – The Mid-America Christian volleyball team kept Central Christian from finding its first win of the season in the Tigers' homecoming match as the Evangels came away with a three-set sweep on Friday night.

  • Set One
    • Mid-America Christian set the tone by rattling off the first seven points, getting two kills apiece from Hanna Foecker and Vanessa Moreira to go along with a Kaylie Walker service ace.
    • Central Christian managed to score five of the next eight to pull it back to within five before the Evangels strung together a 4-1 run to extend their advantage back out to 14-6.
    • Following back-to-back Tigers points, MACU utilized another 4-1 run, getting three points from Kalyn Cormier on two kills and a service ace to take its largest lead of the set at 21-10.
    • The Tigers rattled off five of the next seven to pull the MACU lead back to within single-digits, but the Evangels scored two of the final three, ending it on a strong Allison Porter kill from the right side to make it a 25-16 MACU win.
  • Set Two
    • Central Christian managed to keep it close through the first seven rallies, but another Porter kill jumpstarted a five-unanswered run, getting a kill from Foecker and an ace from Lena Stockhammer to stretch the lead to 9-3.
    • MACU continued to surge away after a Laykin Harcom kill, scoring another five straight while getting kills from Foecker, Porter and Cloie Mitchell while Mitchell and Porter teamed up on a block as well to extend the edge to 14-4.
    • The Tigers battled back by tallying points on seven of the next 10 rallies to pull it to within six at 17-11.
    • While the two teams traded the next six points, Mid-America Christian finished the set with a strong 5-1 run. Foecker started off with a kill while MACU finished with the final three points on a pair of Mitchell kills between a Maegan Plunk ace to take set two, 25-15.
  • Set Three
    • Mid-America Christian set the tone in the third set, scoring nine of the first 11 with Foecker tapping an overpass down at the front of the net.
    • After conceding a point, the Evangels rattled off four in a row, ending the run on a Foecker kill to bring it to 13-3.
    • Central Christian notched four of the next six points before the Evangels strung together a huge 7-0 run behind the serve of Kaylie Walker. Moreira started the run with a kill, notching two more to go with a block while Stockhammer added a point on a kill along with an ace from Walker.
    • While Central Christian scored three straight to start to claw its way back, the Tigers followed with three consecutive errors to allow the Evangels to take set three by a score of 25-10.
MATCH NOTES
  • Mid-America Christian finished the three-set affair with 46 kills on a blistering .375 attack percentage, which included recording 15 kills on a .519 clip in the third set. Meanwhile, Central Christian finished with 25 kills on a .152 attack percentage.
  • Hanna Foecker led the way with 20 kills on a .389 hitting clip. The Evangels also found strong production from Cloie Mitchell and Allison Porter in the attack. Mitchell contributed nine kills on a .368 percentage while Porter notched seven kills on a .500 clip.
  • Lena Stockhammer dished out 35 assists while Maegan Plunk and Kaylie Walker led the MACU backline defense with 11 digs apiece. Walker also notched a season-high four service aces, tying her with Stockhammer for the team-lead with 24 on the season.
  • MACU continued to have great success against the Tigers, improving to 10-0 against Central Christian since 2011.
