Women’s Soccer Seeking Pivotal Road Win at Wayland Baptist

OKLAHOMA CITY – The MACU women's soccer team will be looking for another big road win tonight as the Evangels are heading to Plainview, Texas for a 5 p.m. showdown with Wayland Baptist.

    • Mid-America Christian bounced back from its first Sooner Athletic Conference loss of the season on Saturday as the Evangels came away with a 2-1 victory against Texas Wesleyan.
    • In that victory, the Evangels got a big time performance from the SAC and NCCAA Defensive Player of the Week in senior goalkeeper Jennifer Starwalt, as MACU only gave up one goal to the 12th-best scoring team in the NAIA while Starwalt pitched five saves, including four in the final 17 minutes of the contest.
    • MACU also found a spark from senior forward Veronica Lopez Cordero in the match. For the third time in her career, Lopez Cordero netted two goals in a match, including pushing across her first career game-winner in the 74th minute.
    • The Evangels held firm in their No. 3 spot in the Sooner Athletic Conference standings with 12 points, staying three back of co-leaders John Brown and Science & Arts.

    • Wayland Baptist is coming off a tough loss to Science & Arts last week, as the Pioneers gave up six goals in a 6-0 defeat, a match WBU found themselves out-shot by a 26-6 margin.
    • Something will have to give in this matchup with the two teams success at home and on the road this season. The Pioneers hold a 4-1 record at J.V. Hilliard Field this season while the Evangels are 3-0 in true road contests.
