Men’s Basketball Ready to Tip-Off Season Against Ozark Christian

OKLAHOMA CITY – The Mid-America Christian men's basketball team is preparing to get the 2021-22 season underway as the Evangels host Ozark Christian for a 4 p.m. tip-off inside the Gaulke Activity Center on Saturday.

    • Mid-America Christian is coming off its fourth consecutive selection the NAIA National Championship Tournament. The Evangels stunned No. 8 Southwestern Assemblies of God 94-91 in the SAC Semifinals to advance to the program's second ever SAC Championship game.
    • The Evangels won their NAIA Opening Round game against Holy Cross (Ind.) 69-63 on Mar. 12, 2021 advancing out of the opening round for the fourth straight time.
    • The Evangels will be led by NAIA All-American Terrance Jones, who was the team's top scorer and rebounder a season ago.
    • MACU has a stellar class of incoming players which includes a pair of NCAA Division II transfers in Isaiah Hammons and Kendall Scott to go along with an NJCAA All-American in Eylan Goodwyn.

    • Ozark Christian is coming off a 12-21 campaign in 2020-21.
    • The Ambassadors ranked in the middle of the pack among NCCAA Division II teams in scoring offense at 77.9 ppg but were one of the worst scoring defenses, ranking 25th by giving up 85 ppg.
    • OCC will be replacing its two top scorers in Miles Dressler and Brett Campbell from last season. Tyler Alarid is the team's top returning scorer, as he averaged 13.9 ppg while leading the team in assists with 168, averaging just over five a game.
    • The Evangels and Ambassadors will be reviving an old rivalry that existed before MACU moved up to the NAIA and NCCAA Division I levels in 2007. Between 2003 and 2006, the two programs faced each other seven times with the Evangels winning each matchup. The last time the two teams met, Mid-America Christian came away with a 103-71 victory inside the Gaulke Activity Center on Dec. 9, 2006.
ALUMNI WEEKEND
  • The MACU men's basketball program will be hosting an Alumni Weekend get-together. The day will open with a campus tour for the former MACU men's basketball alumnus starting at noon. After the games, the alumni will meet for dinner at 7:30 p.m.
