Women’s Soccer Wraps Up Three-Match Road Stand at Southwestern Christian

OKLAHOMA CITY – The Mid-America Christian women's soccer team will wrap up its three-match road stand to start Sooner Athletic Conference play this afternoon with a match at Southwestern Christian. Kickoff is slated for 1 p.m. at Cagle Field.

MACU SEASON REPORT

    • Jennifer Starwalt – SR – GK
      • 5-3 Record, 1.69 GAA, 25 Saves, .658 SV%, 3 SHO
  • Team Notes:
    • Mid-America Christian is coming off a dramatic come-from-behind victory at Central Christian on Saturday, battling back from two goals down at halftime on three second half scores. Dixie Anderson opened the scoring in the 62nd minute before Kelsey Henry booted through the equalizer in the 77th minute. With 1:57 remaining, Henry was tackled inside the 18-yard box, setting up a penalty kick that she slipped through inside the right post to give the Evangels the lead.
    • Jennifer Starwalt earned her sixth career SAC Defensive Player of the Week and NCCAA Defensive Student-Athlete of the Week awards due largely in-part to the play she made late in the match against the Tigers. With 22 seconds left, the Evangels were called for a foul in the box, setting up a penalty kick for Lissette Whiteside. However, Starwalt made one of the most brilliant saves of her five-year collegiate career as she made the diving stop toward the right post to keep Central Christian off the board. Starwalt finished the week with just a 1.00 goals allowed average and made nine saves for an .818 save percentage.
    • Henry also earned her second SAC Offensive Player of the Week and NCCAA Offensive Student-Athlete of the Week honors after closing out the stretch with four goals scored with two game-winners.
    • Mid-America Christian was one of just three schools in the league to go 2-0 during the first week of Sooner Athletic Conference play.

    • Celeste Lucio – SO – GK
      • 2-1 Record, 0.30 GAA, 17 Saves, .944 SV%, 2 Shutouts
  • Team Notes:
    • Southwestern Christian enters today's matchup in a slight slump, dropping three of its last four matches, including a 6-0 defeat at Science & Arts on Sept. 28.
    • The Eagles feature one of the top goal scorers in the NAIA in freshman forward Nahomi Olvia, who ranks 12th in the nation with 12 goals scored. However, during the Eagles last four matches, Olvia has been held to just two goals, both of which coming in SCU's lone 2-0 win against Bethany (Kan.) on Sept. 21.
    • Mid-America Christian has had Southwestern Christian's number since the two teams started facing each other in 2010. The Evangels hold 12-0 record during that stretch, with the last win coming in a 4-0 drubbing at the Mike & Helen Dill Soccer Field on Mar. 23, 2021. In that victory, Kyleigh Rushing and Kelsey Henry each netted a pair of scores.
    • The last time the two teams played in Bethany was on Oct. 15, 2019, as Sylvie Willie knocked through the go-ahead goal to propel the Evangels to a 3-nil win.
