SILOAM SPRINGS, Ark. – The Mid-America Christian volleyball team had to battle back from 2-1 deficit, but the Evangels turned on the gas in the fourth set and never looked back as MACU came away with a 3-2 victory at John Brown to garner the program's first ever win against the Golden Eagles inside Bill George Arena.

MATCH SUMMARY
- Set One
- Mid-America Christian came out hot out of the gate, scoring the first six points of the set. Following a Vanessa Moreira kill, Kaylie Walker added a service ace, Moreira and Lena Stockhammer teamed up on a block while Stockhammer followed with a kill of her own before Hanna Foecker ended the run with back-to-back kills.
- John Brown went on a big run through the midway portions of the set, scoring 14 of the next 19 points to take a 14-11 lead.
- The Evangels countered with a dominant run of their own, tallying 13 of the next 15 before a Maddie Callicoat and Allison Porter block brought it to set point, 24-16.
- The Golden Eagles scratched across a couple of points before another Callicoat and Porter rejection at the net ended it at 25-18.
- Set Two
- After the two teams drew even through the first 10 rallies, the Golden Eagles went on a 9-3 surge to claim a 14-8 advantage.
- MACU battled back, scoring three straight points before JBU countered with five unanswered to take its largest lead of the set at 19-11.
- The Evangels slowly chipped their way back, as MACU rattled off three in a row during a 7-2 run to pull it back to within three at 21-18.
- Mid-America Christian shrank the deficit to within two at 24-22 by surviving two set points, but the comeback fell just short as John Brown drew the match even on a block by Micah Fouts and Lilly Ruston to claim the set, 25-22.
- Set Three
- The two teams swapped early runs as three in a row from MACU on kills from Callicoat, Porter and an assisted block between the two gave the Evangels the 7-5 edge before the Golden Eagles battled back with six unanswered of their own to reclaim an 11-7 lead.
- John Brown continued to pull away over the course of the set, eventually building its advantage to 16-9.
- Mid-America Christian continued to battle as a Moreira kill on the ensuing possession ignited a string of six straight for the Evangels, as four straight Foecker kills drew it even at 16-all.
- JBU surged back with three unanswered of its own to take back the advantage, but a two-point MACU swing pulled it back to within one at 21-20.
- The Golden Eagles finished off the set by scoring five of the final seven to secure their second straight 25-22 set win.
- Set Four
- Mid-America Christian scored three straight to start before the Evangels eventually extended its lead to five on back-to-back kills from Cloie Mitchell and Vanessa Moreira, forcing JBU to call a timeout after falling behind 9-4.
- The Golden Eagles managed to keep it to within striking distance over the next 14 rallies, but could not cut any closer than four into their deficit.
- A block by Callicoat and Porter ignited another four-unanswered spurt by the Evangels as a dig-kill for Madaylyn Shurley followed by kills from Callicoat and Moreira built the MACU edge up to 20-11.
- John Brown briefly stopped the streak with a pair of kills, but the Evangels finished strong by scoring five of the final six to come away with a completely controlled 25-14 victory to force a fifth set.
- Set Five
- John Brown and Mid-America Christian battled back-and-forth through the first five rallies with JBU claiming a slight 3-2 edge before the Evangels seized control as a Foecker kill started a five-straight string before Mitchell and Porter teamed up to make it a 7-3 MACU edge.
- A kill by Micah Fouts was just a temporary stop-gap to the Evangels run as MACU followed with another five straight to push the advantage to 12-4. During the run, Callicoat notched a pair of kills while Mitchell and Moreira each chipped in a kill.
- The Golden Eagles tried to fight back with three unanswered, but Mid-America Christian closed out strong by scoring three of the final four, ending it on Stockhammer's setter dump kill during match point to claim the 15-8 victory.
MATCH NOTES
- Mid-America Christian ended the match with 61 kills on a .250 attack percentage while defensively frustrating John Brown, holding JBU to just 43 kills on a .033 hitting clip. The Evangels defense finished the match with a season-high 17 blocks, its highest mark since recording an NAIA era record 21 against Hillsdale (Okla.) on Sept. 6, 2014.
- The one area of the match where John Brown was able to control was from the service line, as JBU put down 14 service aces and committed just four errors while the Evangels could only muster five aces and made 12 miscues.
- Hanna Foecker led the MACU attack with 23 kills on a .298 attack percentage. Vanessa Moreira and Maddie Callicoat were also able to finish with 13.5 points apiece as Moreira notched 10 kills on a .476 clip to go with an ace and five block assists. Callicoat ended the match with nine kills and recorded a career-high nine assisted blocks.
- Maegan Plunk and Kaylie Walker were a two-team wrecking crew in the back row as Plunk notched 26 digs while Walker tied a career-best 20 digs.
- Allison Porter found herself in the MACU record books as her career-best 12 block effort tied Becca Anderson and Kacee Montgomery for the fourth-most total blocks in a single match during the NAIA era.
- Mid-America Christian swept the season series with John Brown by picking up its first win ever in Siloam Springs on-top of coming away with a 3-1 win back at the Gaulke Activity Center on Sept. 1. Previously, the closest the Evangels came to pulling away with a victory at JBU came on Oct. 10, 2018 as MACU battled back from two sets down to force a fifth set, but ultimately dropped a hard-fought 16-14 decision in the final frame.
- By getting the win, Mid-America Christian tied the second-most wins in a single season in the NAIA era with the 2012 team that went 18-16 and are just one win away from tying last season's record-setting mark when the Evangels went 19-15.
