GAME SUMMARY
- First Quarter
- Mid-America Christian played stifling defense in the first three minutes, jumping out to a 5-0 lead with seven minutes to go on a Sydney Wycoff layup and an Ossyana Ozoani three-point play.
- LSU-Shreveport rattled off six of the next seven to close it to a one-point game, but a Lexi Hernandez three pushed the Evangels lead back out to 10-6 with 5:54 to go.
- The Pilots pulled it back to a one-possession game on three different occasions, but Hernandez scored four of the next six to stretch the Evangels edge to six before LSUS' Deauja Thompson knocked down a three to cut MACU's lead to 19-16 after one quarter of play.
- Second Quarter
- The Pilots jumped out to a quick start in the second quarter, scoring the first seven points in a 3:18 stretch to grab a 23-19 advantage.
- MACU countered the run with a seven-point run of their own, getting a three-pointer from Hernandez and a pair of layups from Presley Payahsape and Anna Kash to bring it to a 26-23 Evangels edge with 6:22 to go.
- LSU-Shreveport closed out the half by scoring eight of the final 11 points as a DeJauja Thompson bucket gave the Pilots a 31-29 lead heading into the break.
- Third Quarter
- LSUS once again started out strong to begin the period, rattling off an 8-2 spurt to bring the score to 39-31 within the first minute of play.
- An Abby Bird jumper only briefly halted the Pilots momentum as Shreveport scored five of the next seven, taking its largest lead of the game on a Tatym Barnes triple with 4:07 left to make it 46-35.
- Payahsape knocked down a crucial three to help MACU stem the tide, but the Evangels could only slightly cut into the Pilots lead as a pair of Angel Reese free throws extended the LSUS edge to 52-44 heading into the fourth period.
- Fourth Quarter
- A Kash layup on the Evangels' first possession helped stem the tide as MACU went on a 10-2 surge, tying it up on an Ozoani layup with 6:37 to go.
- For the remainder of the period, every time LSUS went ahead, the Evangels would find an equalizer. However, a Kiara Collins layup with 23 seconds left put MACU down 65-63.
- Mid-America Christian had one last chance at the end as Kyleigh Leverich found Ozoani on the right side. Her initial shot was blocked but she managed to snatch the ball out of the air and put it right back up at the buzzer for the game-tying layup, sending the game to overtime.
- Overtime
- Hernandez and LSUS's Brittney Thompson traded layups to start off the extra session, but buckled down defensively for final two and a half minutes.
- After a pair of Wycoff free throws gave MACU the lead, Leverich made an outstanding defensive play by picking the pocket of Thompson off the inbound play before going in for a right-handed layup to make it a 71-67 MACU advantage.
- The Evangels managed to force the Pilots into committing three turnovers over the final two minutes as MACU sealed the game from the free throw line to end it at 74-67.
