Hanna Foecker, Maegan Plunk Earn CoSIDA Academic All-America Accolades

AUSTIN, Texas – The College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) announced its volleyball Academic All-America Teams on Friday and for the first time in program history, Mid-America Christian placed two student-athletes in Hanna Foecker and Maegan Plunk to the highly decorated list.

To be selected to the list of 14, a student-athlete must perform exceptionally both academically and academically as both Foecker and Plunk were stand-out performers during their final seasons with the Evangels. Both student-athletes were selected to the Second Team after completing their remarkable campaigns.

In her third season with the program, Foecker shattered every offensive record in MACU's NAIA Era single season record book, as not only did her 776 kills surpass her own spot in the archive, but she also recorded the most kills by any collegiate student-athlete competing at a four-year institution, including NCAA Divisions I, II and III, NAIA as well as the NCCAA Divisions I and II. Foecker was also the only player in the nation to surpass 700 kills and was just one of two players to surpass 600 kills with the lone other athlete being NCAA Division I Central Florida's McKenna Melville with 617.

The Borken, Germany native also led the nation in total attacks with 1932, as NCAA Division II Missouri-St. Louis' Charlotte Richards was the second-closest with 1704. Last season, Foecker broke the records for kills and attacks with 526 kills on 1519 attempts.

Not only did the 6-2 outside hitter set career-highs in kills and attacks, but her .284 attack percentage on the year set the fourth-highest hitting clip in MACU's single season record book, sitting only behind Hannah Luedtke (160-24-419, .325), Becca Anderson (188-47-483, .292) and Christiane Costa (338-90-853, .291).

Foecker also set the ninth-highest single season mark for service aces (40) while defensively notching a career-high 335, finishing second on the squad.

It was a banner year for the graduate student as she became the program's first ever NAIA All-American, earning Second Team honors on-top of being named an NCCAA First Team All-American, the SAC Co-Attacker of the Year, an All-SAC First Team honoree and an NCCAA Scholar-Athlete.

Foecker wraps up her three-year MACU playing career with the program record for career kills (1673) and attacks (4495) while also holding the single-match record for total kills (33), three-set kills (27), four-set kills (30), five-set kills (33), total attacks (90), four-set attacks (88) and five-set attacks (90).

Academically, Foecker is currently pursuing her MBA after receiving her Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration and Sports Management, maintaining a 3.75 cumulative grade-point average in her academic career.

Also turning in another record-breaking year, Plunk closed out her highly successful 2021 campaign with 738 digs, surpassing her own record of 671 recorded during the 2020-21 season. Plunk's total tally was the fifth-highest mark in the NAIA. Plunk finished with a 5.05 digs per set average, the third time in her MACU career she averaged more than five digs per set in a season and ranks as the fourth-highest clip in the NAIA era record book.

The Mineola, Texas product has pasted her name all over MACU's record books over the course of her four-year playing career, as her 2288 career digs is more than 800 higher than Camera Broadnax's mark while also notching the single-match digs records in a four-set (31) and five-set (46) matches.

Foecker and Plunk are also graduating as two of the top servers in program history as Foecker (120) and Plunk (111) rank third and fourth in MACU's NAIA record book.

Plunk wrapped up her season as an All-SAC Second Team honoree and an NCCAA Scholar-Athlete as well as an NCCAA Second Team All-Region.

Foecker and Plunk led the 2021 MACU volleyball team to its best season since moving up to the NAIA level in 2007. The Evangels wrapped up the year with a 28-11 overall record and finished second at the NCCAA Division I National Championships, the team's best placement since the program won the NCCAA Division II National Championship in 2001.

Overall, Foecker and Plunk are the fifth and sixth players from the MACU volleyball program to ever be named to the CoSIDA Academic All-America Team. The previous recipients include Becca Anderson (2010), Calle Solie (2012), Hannah Luedtke (2015) and Larissa Runyan (2016).
