Men’s Basketball Earns No. 4 Seed in SAC Tournament, Hosts Texas Wesleyan on Wednesday

OKLAHOMA CITY – Finishing the regular season with a 9-3 overall record and a 6-2 mark against Sooner Athletic Conference competition, the Mid-America Christian men's basketball team was selected as the No. 4 seed in the SAC Tournament and will host fifth-seed Texas Wesleyan inside the Gaulke Activity Center at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 24.

Mid-America Christian has finished the regular season with a .500 or better record in 12 straight years and are posting their ninth winning season during that stretch.

After hitting a mid-season slump, the Evangels finished the regular season strong by winning five of their last six games as their only loss came in a tightly contested 80-77 defeat at No. 8 Science & Arts on Feb. 9.

MACU wrapped up the regular season with a 62-54 road win at Langston on Feb. 12 before following it up with a come-from-behind 68-60 win over Central Christian for Senior Day on Feb. 13. The Evangels were scheduled to close out the regular season at Oklahoma Panhandle State on Feb. 18 and at Wayland Baptist on Saturday, but both games were canceled due to the winter storm that ravaged the southwest this week.

MACU is hosting a SAC Quarterfinal game for the second straight year after winning the league's regular season championship in 2020. The Evangels are competing in their 12th conference tournament since joining the league in 2007.

Mid-America Christian was scheduled to be the site host for the SAC Semifinal and SAC Championship games, but due to the tournament structure change this year due to COVID-19 restrictions, MACU will host the conference tournament in 2022.

If the Evangels are victorious on Wednesday night, they will play the winner of top-seeded Southwestern Assemblies of God and No. 8 seed Oklahoma Panhandle State on Saturday, Feb. 27. If SAGU wins, the Evangels would travel to Waxahachie, Texas to take on the Lions, but would host the Aggies if OPSU springs the upset.

MACU will be allowing fans to attend the SAC Tournament games this week, but will need to adhere to the COVID-19 policies and procedures that are laid out in the link below.
