GAME SUMMARY
  • Mid-America Christian was able to get the first great scoring opportunity of the game when it loaded the bases with one out on Mikaylee Allen's hit-by-pitch and then Kassie Martin and Olivia Roberts each drew a walk. However, 2020 Sooner Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Year Emily Cerny buckled down by inducing a popout and a strikeout on back-to-back at-bats to keep the Evangels off the board.
  • The Drovers also got a strong scoring chance in the third when USAO's Macenzie Ruth reached on an infield single and then stole second and third with just one out before Kristen Prieto reached first on a walk to put runners at the corners. MACU senior pitcher Katie Long got out of the jam by striking out back-to-back batters to keep the game scoreless.
  • USAO managed to get a runner to third once again in the bottom of the fifth, but this time, the Drovers were able to push the run across when Mikaylee Allen made a costly throwing error to first with two outs to allow the runner to score and give Science & Arts the 1-0 lead.
  • Mid-America Christian put together a major threat in the top of the sixth when Long smashed a leadoff double to left-center field and then MACU pinch runner Haley Lindsey was advanced to third on a SAC bunt. The Evangels had two chances to drive her in, but Cerny was able to induce a popout and a strikeout to leave the runner stranded.
  • The Evangels had their backs against the wall in the seventh inning when former SAC Freshman of the Year Olivia Roberts fell behind 0-2 in the count with two outs and Mikaylee Allen on second, but in the most clutch at-bat of her career, Roberts drove ensuing pitch to deep left field for her first home run of the 2021 season, giving the Evangels a 2-1 lead.
  • After Faith Hollingsworth slapped a single to left, Long added some much needed insurance in her at-bat as she smashed an RBI double down the left field line to extend the MACU edge to 3-1.
  • Long ran into some major trouble in the bottom of the seventh after three of the first four Drovers batters reached via singles, cutting their deficit to one on Kristen Prieto's RBI slap to left. After inducing a popout before walking SAC Player of the Week Randa Hatter to load the bases, Long finished off the win by getting Madelyn Blair to flyout to left.
GAME NOTES
  • Both teams recorded sixth hits and an error in the first matchup of the day.
  • After winning its final 22 games of the COVID-19 shorted 2020 season and starting out the 2021 campaign 11-0, Mid-America Christian handed the Drovers their first loss since a 7-2 defeat to Houston-Victoria on Feb. 8, 2020.
  • The Evangels also snapped another extensive Science & Arts streak on Tuesday as the Drovers had won 57 in a row at home since suffering a 3-0 defeat to Oklahoma City on Mar. 10, 2018.
  • Katie Long improved to 3-2 on the season and gave up just two runs, one earned on six hits, five walks and struck out nine batters. Long also had her best day from the plate since joining the squad, slashing 2-for-4 with a pair of doubles, including the RBI double in the seventh that made the difference.
  • Roberts two-run homer in the seventh inning was the second of her career and the second home run hit by the Evangels this season.
