OKLAHOMA CITY – With the Sooner Athletic Conference releasing its volleyball Scholar-Athletes on Tuesday, the Mid-America Christian volleyball program was one of the top performing teams in the league, placing six on the distinguished list.

To be selected as a SAC Scholar-Athlete, a student-athlete must be a junior by academic standing and maintain a 3.5 cumulative grade-point average while appearing on the eligibility certificate for an NAIA-recognized sport. The student-athlete must also have attended at least two full years at the nominating institution or one full year as a collegiate transfer.

Mid-America Christian was one of just three SAC programs to notch six or more Scholar-Athletes, sitting only behind John Brown with eight recipients and Oklahoma City with seven honorees.

On top of performing at a high level of excellence in the classroom, the Evangels are coming off one of their best seasons since they joined the Sooner Athletic Conference in 2007. MACU wrapped up the COVID-19 split 2020-21 campaign with a 19-14 overall record, its winningest season since becoming an SAC member while also appearing in just their second NCCAA DI National Championship meet.

The Evangels also put forth a first in program history as MACU had two student-athletes earn both NAIA and NCCAA All-American honors. Hanna Foecker became the Evangels' first NCCAA DI First Team All-American while garnering NAIA All-American Honorable Mention accolades while Maegan Plunk notched NCCAA All-American Second Team honors and an NAIA All-American Honorable Mention nod. Both Foecker and Plunk also garnered SAC Scholar-Athlete accolades.
