OKLAHOMA CITY – Coming off one of her best defensive performances of her early collegiate career, redshirt sophomore middle blocker Allison Porter was selected as the Sooner Athletic Conference Defender of the Week on Monday.

In a 25-19, 25-17, 25-17 victory at Oklahoma Wesleyan on Friday, the 6-0 blocker from Lawton, Okla. tied a career-high eight blocks, averaging 2.67 blocks per set for the match. The mark was also a personal best from a three-set match, blowing away her personal three-set mark of four recorded against Arlington Baptist on Oct. 13, 2020.

Through six matches, Porter leads the team with 23 blocks and is averaging 0.96 blocks per set, which is currently on-pace to surpass her own third-highest clip in a season since the program joined the NAIA in 2007. During the 2020 campaign, Porter recorded the second-most blocks on the team with 56 on a 0.92 per set average.

Coming off a three-set sweep over Science & Arts in its Sooner Athletic Conference opener, Mid-America Christian will be back in-action on Wednesday as the Evangels host John Brown for a 7 p.m. opening serve in the Gaulke Activity Center.
