MATCH SUMMARY
  • First Half
    • Abagail McCain gave the Evangels the early advantage on her first goal of the season. After Johanna Behrens picked the pocket of a Friends defender at the top of the 18-yard box, Behrens dished it to McCain breaking toward the right post as she slipped a shot past the keeper to make it 1-0 less than seven minutes in.
    • Four minutes later, Kelsey Henry notched her first goal of the season. Following a save, Dixie Anderson launched a cross into the air toward the left post that was momentarily headed away by a Falcons defender. However, Henry positioned herself well at the edge of the six-yard box as she tracked down the loose ball and lifted a shot over the outstretched arms of the keeper and into the middle of the net to bring the lead to 2-nil.
    • Friends managed to get a goal back in the 15th minute before Kyleigh Gibson (Rushing) got into the scoring column in the 33rd minute. After Mia Willyerd found the senior forward on the left side of the field, Gibson launched a 30-yard heave that sailed over the arms of the leaping keeper and just underneath the crossbar, bringing the lead back to 3-1.
    • The Falcons once again managed to cut the lead back to one on a 41st minute score, but the Evangels were able to once again extend the advantage back to two before the halftime break. With just over a minute to go, Jasmine Morales had an initial shot saved but after Marga Franco intercepted a clearing pass, she found Veronica Lopez Cordero near the top of the 18-yard box, who then fed it back to Morales cutting toward the right post. On the second attempt, Morales slipped her shot toward the left post past the keeper, making it a 4-2 contest heading into the half.
  • Second Half
    • Just over 10 minutes into the half, Gibson made her second incredible offensive play of the afternoon. As the Falcons tried to send it to the right side, Gibson intercepted the long pass and utilized great ball skills to maintain possession on the break. On the right side edge of the 18-yard box, Gibson once again sailed a shot over the keeper and into the left side of the net, extending the MACU edge to 5-2.
    • In the 63rd minute, Friends got a goal back when Keily Larosse took the ball away from a MACU defender inside the 18-yard box and was able to execute a high-skill shot from 10 yards out from the right side to the top left corner to trim the MACU lead down to two.
