Volleyball Wraps Up Highlander Invitational with Sweeps over Jarvis Christian, Centenary

BATESVILLE, Ark. – The Mid-America Christian volleyball team completed its dominant run through the Highlander Invitational with a pair of three-set sweeps over Jarvis Christian (Texas) and Centenary (La.) on Saturday afternoon.

  • MATCH SUMMARY
    • Set One
      • Mid-America Christian dominated through the first 13 sets, jumping out to an 11-2 lead, which included three Hanna Foecker kills and two Lena Stockhammer service aces.
      • After trading the next three rallies, the Evangels went on a 7-1 run to take its largest lead of the set on Vanessa Moreira's kill to make it 19-5.
      • While splitting the next 10 points evenly, Jarvis Christian survived four set points before Foecker finished off the with a kill to seal the 25-14 set victory.
    • Set Two
      • The Bulldogs were able to take an early 6-3 lead before the Evangels took their first advantage of the set with a 5-1 run to bring the score to 8-7. Jarvis Christian answered with three straight and took six of the next eight rallies to possess a 13-10 edge midway through.
      • MACU pieced together a stellar run, scoring on 13 of the next 15 rallies to take a commanding 23-15 advantage late in the set.
      • Jarvis Christian managed to score three of the next four before Foecker picked up another set-ending kill to seal the 25-18 win.
    • Set Three
      • Jarvis Christian once again was able to command an early 8-6 advantage before the Evangels were able to get into sync by going on an 11-2 run, getting five kills from Foecker to claim a 17-10 lead.
      • The two teams split the next 10 points before the Bulldogs strung together three straight to cut the deficit to 22-18.
      • Mid-America Christian finished strong, scoring the final three points behind kills from Maddie Callicoat, Cloie Mitchell and a JCC attack error to finish off the 25-18 win for the sweep.
  • MATCH NOTES
    • Defensively, Mid-America Christian held Jarvis Christian to just 21 kills on a -.010 attack percentage, the lowest clip an opponent has hit against the Evangels while MACU turned in 42 kills on a .266 attack percentage, its fourth-highest clip of the season.
    • With 22 kills on a season-high .455 attack percentage, Hanna Foecker finished the second-most kills in a three-set match since the Evangels joined the NAIA in 2007. Foecker finished right behind her own record of 24 set in the victory against Langston on Mar. 29.
    • Lena Stockhammer finished with 25 assists and a match-high three service aces while Maegan Plunk led MACU on the defensive end with 18 digs.
    • The Evangels moved to 9-0 all-time against Jarvis Christian since their first meeting on Sept. 5, 2009.

    • Set One
      • Centenary kept it to within striking distance midway through the set as a couple of Evangels attack errors brought it to 11-7.
      • A five-unanswered run by the Evangels was the start of a dominant second half of the set for MACU as Mid-America Christian closed out the set by outscoring Centenary 14-2 to come away with the 25-9 set victory. Hanna Foecker and Vanessa Moreira led the Evangels in the set with four kills apiece.
    • Set Two
      • After conceding the first point, Mid-America Christian got four straight kills, the first from Cloie Mitchell before Foecker came back with three in a row before Centenary could get a point back to bring it to 4-2.
      • Mid-America Christian rattled off five straight before CC scored two of the next three to make it a 10-4 match.
      • The Evangels ended the set with an unstoppable run, scoring 15 of the final 16 points to complete one of its most dominant set victories in program history at 25-5.
    • Set Three
      • Four Foecker kill helped spring an 8-1 MACU run to start set three.
      • Centenary fought its way back, scoring five of the next six points to close the gap to 9-6.
      • Mid-America Christian once again took over by scoring on 13 of the next 16 rallies to put the set out of reach at 22-9. The Evangels also scored three of the final five points to secure the 25-11 victory.
  • MATCH NOTES
    • Mid-America Christian finished the match with 41 kills on a .402 attack percentage, the highest clip the Evangels have hit for in a match since recording a .403 clip in a 25-15, 25-8, 25-6 win at Dallas Christian (Texas) on Sept. 1, 2012.
    • The Evangels also allowed an NAIA era program-record low 25 points in the match, topping the previous best of 26 when the Evangels defeated Hillsdale (Okla.) 25-9, 25-5, 25-12 on Sept. 2, 2008.
    • Hanna Foecker led the MACU attack with 17 kills on a career-high .708 attack percentage, the eighth-highest clip for an individual player in the NAIA era.
    • After the completion of the match, Foecker moved to the top of the NAIA in both total kills (214) and a tie for first in kills per set (5.10).
    • Lena Stockhammer led the passing attack with 31 assists while efficiently putting down five kills on a perfect 1.000 attack percentage.
    • Maegan Plunk once again finished with a team-high 17 digs to go with a pair of service aces.

  • Mid-America Christian will return to Sooner Athletic Conference play on Friday, Sept. 10 as the Evangels will head to Plainview, Texas to take on Wayland Baptist for a 7 p.m. match.
