Women’s Soccer Seeks to Stun No. 21 Science & Arts on Friday

OKLAHOMA CITY – The Mid-America Christian women's soccer team will be seeking a top 25 road upset as both the Evangels and the Drovers will put their win streaks on the line as MACU will battle No. 21 Science & Arts at McLaughlin Field in Chickasha, Okla. on Friday night.

    • Through the first two weeks of Sooner Athletic Conference play, Mid-America Christian has gotten on the winning track as the Evangels are currently undefeated (3-0-1) in league play and are outscoring their opponents by a 9-2 margin. More than half of MACU's goals scored this season have come in league play.
    • Mid-America Christian is currently just one of three teams in the conference have not suffered a loss in SAC play along with No. 21 Science & Arts (4-0) and Oklahoma City (4-0).
    • In the win over Texas Wesleyan, the Evangels were able to neutralize one of the top strikers in the SAC in Tameir Grosvenor as MACU held her scoreless on three shot attempts.
    • Annika Gerdau and Francesca Martella led MACU's offensive efforts in a pair of 2-1 victories at Southwestern Assemblies of God and Texas Wesleyan last week with each recording a game-winning goal and an assist between the two contests.

    • Science & Arts kept into a tie for the Sooner Athletic Conference lead with its 2-1 win at No. 17 John Brown (Ark.) on Oct. 8. In the win, the Drovers scored the thrilling game-winner with only 27 seconds left as Avery Walker headed in the winner for USAO.
    • The Drovers swept the SAC Player of the Week awards last week with Walker claiming the offensive honor and sophomore keeper Caitlyn Bishop earning the defensive award.
    • After opening the season with a 5-0 loss to No. 12 Oklahoma Wesleyan, the Drovers have won or tied their last 12 matches.
    • The Drovers feature a high-octane attack that features the two top scorers in the SAC. Senior forward Emma Rice, who is one of the top goal scorers in the history of the NAIA leads the team with 10 goals and seven assists for 27 points while sophomore forward Alicia Rey has also notched 27 points on eight goals and 11 assists.
    • While the Drovers hold a 17-2 lead in the all-time series, Mid-America Christian will be seeking its second straight win at McLaughlin Field. In their last meeting in the venue on Mar. 13, 2021, the Evangels came away with a 2-0 victory. Kelsey Henry booted in the game-winner in the 11th minute while Paola Camacho came up with an insurance goal in the 26th minute. The MACU defense also stifled the elite Drovers attack, holding USAO to only two shots on-goal the entire match.
