MATCH SUMMARY
  • Due to the high winds, both teams struggled to generate much offense as neither team was able to force a shot on-goal until OCU's Madi Caputo forced a slow roller through the MACU defense in the middle of the box that was easily saved by Makayla Farquharson.
  • Oklahoma City took the lead into the half after OCU's Madison McEwin was able to dispossess the Evangels down the right side before delivering a cross to the top of the 18-yard box. Sofia Carvajal Granados tapped a pass back to Caputo, who rifled a 24-yarder from the right side toward the top left corner of the goal to make it a 1-0 game going into the break.
  • Farquharson was able to make a strong leaping save on Caputo's 23-yarder from the left side to toward right of net in the 55th minute.
  • However, Caputo came up with her second goal in the 60th minute when a cross from the right side by McLain Moss found McEwin on the left side as she delivered a through ball to Caputo. Breaking past a defender, Caputo blasted a 16-yarder from the left side to inside the left post, swelling the OCU lead to 2-nil.
  • Four minutes later, the Evangels were able to break through on the scoring column when Cammy Hargrove was able to tackle the ball away from a midfielder on the left sideline dribbled in and lofted a 35-yarder to the top left corner of the goal, cutting the deficit to 2-1.
  • MACU narrowly missed an equalizer in the 70th minute. After a foul was called on OCU from about 45-yards out, Francesca Martella used the advantage of a strong, gusty wind to put a free kick shot on-goal as the ball nearly slipped through the hands of OCU goalkeeper Irene Gonzalez when she reached up to snag the shot.
  • In the 82nd minute, Mid-America Christian was finally able to come up with the equalizer. After a foul was called on the Stars from 35-yards out, Martella's free kick attempt on-goal pinged off the top of the crossbar and high up into the air. Following a battle for the loose ball near the top of the box, Jasie Eischen flicked a pass in the air toward the right post that was headed in from four-yards out by Kanasa Spybuck, bringing the match even at 2-2.
  • Mid-America Christian had a great chance at a game-winner with less than 30 seconds left when Farquharson's clearance found the head of Kadin Stinson in the midfield, as he headed the bouncing ball onto the run of Hargrove. Despite having an open look, Hargrove slipped on the breakaway while taking the shot as the ball rolled to the keeper to ultimately seal the draw.
MATCH NOTES
  • Both teams were evenly matched throughout as MACU held a slim 15-14 edge in shots over Oklahoma City while both teams placed six shots on-goal.
  • Cammy Hargrove's 65th minute highlight reel goal was her second goal of the season. After moving from center-back to forward in the second half, Hargrove led the MACU shooting efforts with five shots with four landing on-target.
  • Kanasa Spybuck moved alone into the team's goal-scoring lead with her fourth of the season in the 82nd minute. Eischen's assist on that equalizer marked her second of the 2022 campaign.
  • Makayla Farquharson moved to 4-7-2 in-goal after recording four saves on a .667 save percentage over 90 minutes of play.
  • The match marked the first ever draw between Mid-America Christian and Oklahoma City since the two teams started facing each other in 2008.
  • Oklahoma City maintained its hold on the No. 3 spot in the Sooner Athletic Conference standings with the draw, moving to 9-2-4 overall and 4-1-2 in conference play for 14 conference points while the Evangels stayed within three points by going 4-9-2 overall and 3-2-2 in SAC play.
  • Before the start of the match, Mid-America Christian honored its six graduating seniors: Bruna Faleiro, Kadin Stinson, Daniela Paez, Joan Nakirya, Kanasa Spybuck and Gipsy Gonzalez.
UP NEXT
  • Mid-America Christian will play its final regular season home game on Tuesday, Oct. 25 as the Evangels will face off against Southwestern Christian. Kickoff is scheduled for 5 p.m. at the Dill Soccer Field.
