Men’s Basketball to Tip-Off SAC Competition at Home against Langston

OKLAHOMA CITY – After a lengthy road stretch, the MACU men's basketball team will be back in its home confines on Wednesday as the Evangels will start off Sooner Athletic Conference play against Langston for a 7:45 p.m. tip-off inside the Gaulke Activity Center

    • Mid-America Christian will be playing its first regular season came since defeating Ozark Christian 105-100 inside the Gaulke Activity Center back on Oct. 29. The Evangels are coming off a 96-71 loss at NCAA Division I Omaha back on Nov. 1 and followed it up with a hard-fought 71-53 defeat at NCAA D-I Texas State on Nov. 10 in a pair of exhibition games.
    • The Evangels are currently the top scoring team in the NAIA thus far as MACU is currently averaging 106.0 points per game in countable games.
    • MACU is led by redshirt sophomore guard DaRaun Clark, who currently ranks second in the SAC in points per game (27.5) as he is shooting 47.5 percent from the field and a blistering 92 percent from the charity stripe.
    • MACU also currently boasts three of the top five shooters in the SAC with Seth Hurd boasting the league's best field goal percentage (75.0) while Eylan Goodwyn (72.7, 2nd) and Conner Calavan (66.7, 5th) are also near the top of the heap.

    • After going just 1-27 last season, Langston is already off to a better start under new head coach Chris Wright. The Lions opened the season with a dominant 94-48 victory over Dallas Christian on Oct. 28 before picking an 80-62 win at Midland (Neb.) on Nov. 7.
    • The Lions are led by a pair of talented transfers in senior forward Tristan Harper and senior guard Anthony White. Harper, who competed at Middle Georgia State last season is one of the best shooters in the SAC thus far, averaging 18.0 ppg on 66.7 percent shooting and is also pulling down 7.0 rebounds per contest thus far this season. White, who was one of the top players for NCAA Division II Indiana (Pa.) is also averaging 18.0 ppg while providing a dangerous outside threat for the Lions, shooting 6-for-14 (42.9 percent) from beyond the arc.
    • The matchup with MACU will feature the top two shooting teams in the SAC. Coming into the match, the Evangels lead the conference by shooting 55.2 percent from the field while the Lions are knocking down 54.2 percent of their shots. As a team, Langston is also dangerous from three-point land as LU is converting the third-best rate in the SAC from behind the arc at 40.5.
    • Mid-America Christian has fared well in the all-time series by winning 12 of their 13 previous matchups, which includes seven straight since the Lions joined the SAC during the 2018-19 season. In their last meeting, the Evangels dominated the Lions in the opening half as MACU went into the halftime break with a 47-19 advantage before coming away with the 98-63 victory at Langston on Feb. 19.
