Women’s Soccer Falls in Overtime to Wayland Baptist 1-0 in SAC Quarterfinal

OKLAHOMA CITY – The Mid-America Christian women's soccer team saw its season come to a tough end in the Sooner Athletic Conference Quarterfinal at the Dill Soccer Field on Thursday afternoon as the Evangels dropped a 1-0 overtime decision to Wayland Baptist.

SCORING SUMMARY
  • 1st OT – WBU – 98:06 – Goal: Natalie Terry (1) – WBU 1, MACU 0
MATCH SUMMARY
  • Mid-America Christian held the early offensive momentum as the Evangels were able to put the first shot on-goal in the sixth minute from distance off the foot of Jasie Eischen from the right side, but the ball went directly to WBU keeper Kanade Morita for the save.
  • The Evangels best chance at the go-ahead goal in the match came in the 30th minute when Francesca Martella placed a header toward the top left corner off the right side corner kick from Annika Gerdau, but Morita made a stellar leaping save to poke the shot off the crossbar to keep it to a scoreless game.
  • The Pioneers were unable to put a shot on-goal until the 35th minute, but Natalie Terry's shot from 30 yards out from the left side bounced in to Makayla Farquharson near the left post.
  • Both teams struggled to put shots on-frame in the second half, but Wayland Baptist put together an offensive onslaught with just under five minutes to go. After Farquharson made a stellar diving save on Tobi McCoy's shot attempt from 16-yards on the right side in the 86th minute, she made another save off a volley shot toward the right post from Bruna Moureira 30 seconds later.
  • In the first overtime period, Mid-America Christian had the best first chance when Jasmine Morales launched a 30-yard shot toward the right post, but Morita made a strong leaping snag to keep it in-front.
  • Wayland Baptist scored the game-winner in the 99th minute when the Pioneers forced a MACU turnover in its defensive third. Cammy Hargrove made a sliding tackle on Abryshia Walker to knock the ball away, but the loose ball ended up at the foot of Terry, who launched a precision 35-yard floater toward the top left corner to make it a 1-0 WBU lead.
  • Mid-America Christian's only chance to tie came in the 102nd minute of the second overtime when Hargrove hit a volley shot toward the right post off the back pass from Morales off a Martella free kick, but Morita made the stop to seal the 1-0 win for Wayland Baptist.
