Baseball Sweeps Doubleheader with Pair of 4-3 Victories at Wayland Baptist

PLAINVIEW, Texas – The Mid-America Christian baseball team came away with a pair of dramatic 4-3 victories over Wayland Baptist in a Sooner Athletic Conference road doubleheader at David & Myrt Wilder Field on Saturday.

Andrew Enwiya hit a go-ahead solo homer in the top of the seventh in the opening game before Grant Roberts came up with the game-winning RBI double in the top of the seventh in game two to keep the Evangels unblemished in SAC play so far this season.

  • Mid-America Christian scored its four runs on nine hits while Wayland Baptist tallied its three runs on five hits and committed two errors.
  • Andrew Enwiya led the MACU bats by finishing just a double from the cycle, slashing 3-for-4 with a triple and home run in the seventh to break a 3-3 tie. Enwiya finished with a pair of RBIs and a run scored.
  • Enwiya's game-winning home run was his team-leading seventh of the season.
  • Isaiah Leon was very efficient from the plate, reaching base three times by going 1-for-2 with a double, a pair of runs scored and a stolen base to go with a pair of walks drawn.
  • Frensly Leito tossed his third complete game of the season, holding a very potent Wayland Baptist squad to only three earned runs on five hits, two walks and struck out nine batters to improve to 4-0 on the mound this season.
  • Leito was able to get out of a big time jam in the bottom of the seventh when Brock Webber hit a one-out double to right-center and pinch-runner Will Flowers got down to third on a passed ball. However, Leito was able to induce a lineout to short and a flyout to right to get out of the jam.

  • Eight different Evangels finished with a hit and four MACU players tallied two hits as Isaiah Leon, Andrew Enwiya, Caden Harris and Grant Roberts notched two apiece.
  • Despite not getting a decision, Zane Robeaux pitched very well in his start, finishing with nine strikeouts and gave up just two earned runs on three hits and two walks over five innings of work.
  • Kelton Lachelt improved to 4-0 on the season over two innings of relief, allowing just one unearned run on three hits, a walk and two strikeouts.
  • After Wayland Baptist tied it up on an Evangels error in the bottom of the sixth, Lachelt was able to get the Evangels out of a big time jam with runners at second and third by getting Mark Anzaldua to strike out to end the inning.
  • With one out in the seventh, Caden Harris was able to get aboard on a single to left before scoring from first on a double smashed by Grant Roberts to left, making it a 4-3 game.
  • Lachelt gave up a double to start the bottom of the seventh, but was able to get out of trouble once again by striking out Justin Porter and inducing back-to-back fielder's choice groundouts to secure the victory.
  • By sweeping the doubleheader, Mid-America Christian is off to its first 5-0 start to Sooner Athletic Conference play in program history. The Evangels are also off to their best start through 20 games in the NAIA Era (2008-present) by holding a 15-5 overall mark.
  • The Evangels notched their first series win in Plainview since 2017 as MACU bounced back from a 3-2 loss on Apr. 21 with a 5-4 win in the second game of the doubleheader before coming away with the series win with a 9-7 victory on Apr. 22.
  • MACU improved to 7-0 during the month of March.
  • The Evangels have scored exactly four runs in the last four games and have won all four contests.
