Enwiya’s Walk-Off Homer Propels Baseball to Doubleheader Split with No. 5 Oklahoma City

OKLAHOMA CITYAndrew Enwiya came up with his second walk-off hit in the past few weeks as his solo blast to left in the bottom of the ninth propelled the Mid-America Christian baseball team to a 3-2 victory over No. 5 Oklahoma City in the first game of the doubleheader before falling 8-2 to the Stars in the finale at the MACU Baseball Field on Saturday.

  • Despite getting a no-decision, senior starter Frensly Leito put together another tremendous start, allowing one of the top hitting teams in the NAIA to only two runs on five hits and four walks with 10 strikeouts over seven innings of work.
  • Kelton Lachelt picked up the win in relief, improving to 7-0 on the year after tossing a pair of scoreless innings, not allowing a single hit or walk while striking out a pair. Lachelt is the first pitcher in the Sooner Athletic Conference to reach seven wins on the year.

  • Mid-America Christian suffered its first loss at the MACU Baseball Field during the 2022 campaign. The Evangels were 5-0 in their previous games at home.
  • Ryan Reed registered the lone Evangels home run of the contest with a solo blast that scaled over the center field fence as part of a two-run third inning to help MACU cut the Stars lead in half at 4-2. The shot moved Reed into a tie for second on the team with three so far on the year.
  • With Andrew Enwiya recording his RBI double in the bottom of the third, the senior outfielder moved into the team-lead with 26 runs driven in this season.
  • Cameron Brown suffered the loss after a tough 4.1 innings of work, giving up six earned runs on seven hits, two walks and five strikeouts.
  • By suffering the loss, Oklahoma City moved back into first place in the Sooner Athletic Conference with a 10-2 league mark while the Evangels sit right behind with a 9-3 conference mark.

  • Mid-America Christian will face its second straight ranked opponent next week as the Evangels will face No. 14 Science & Arts in a three-game series. MACU will open it up at home on Thursday, Mar. 31 with a nine-inning game starting at 1 p.m.
