GAME SUMMARY
  • Mid-America Christian scored its nine runs on 12 hits and committed a pair of errors while Oklahoma Panhandle State tallied its eight runs on seven hits and made just one miscue.
  • The Evangels cranked out five home runs in the victory, tying the most in a single game in the NAIA Era. The last time MACU hit five homers in a game came in a 27-5 win at Bacone on Feb. 20, 2020.
  • The MACU offense featured some balance batting with eight different players recording a hit and four players notching two hits. Junior designated player Blake Diggle led the offensive charge by batting 2-for-4 with a double, a homer and four RBIs to go with a run scored.
  • Ryan Reed also tallied a 2-for-4 day, swatting a double before smashing the no-doubt walk-off home run over the left field fence after German Sepulveda had just tied it with a pinch-hit solo blast that also sailed out to left in the previous at-bat.
  • The clutch hit by Reed was the first walk-off of the season for the Evangels.
  • While the MACU offense was tough, the Evangels had a hard time slowing down the red-hot bat of Jonathan Applebury for OPSU, as the senior first baseman slashed 3-for-4 with a double, two homers, six RBIs to go with a pair of runs.
  • Mid-America Christian starter Cameron Brown struggled through the first two innings as OPSU jumped out to a commanding 6-1 lead.
  • The bats started coming alive for the Evangels in the bottom half of the second. An RBI double by Reed preceded a three-run smash by Blake Diggle to left, cutting it to a 6-5 deficit.
  • After MACU lost starting center fielder Anmi Ortega to a knee injury after colliding into the left-center field wall while making a running grab, his replacement Payton Walk came up clutch in the bottom of the third by crushing a solo bomb that just crawled over the center field fence, tying the game up at 6-6.
  • The Aggies managed to grab the lead back in the fifth when Payton Brown hit a single back up the middle, Manrique Mora scored from second after the ball popped out of the glove of starting catcher Yan Ely Adames making the tag on the sliding Mora, bringing the score to 7-6.
  • While Devon Villanueva tied it back up in the bottom of the fifth on a solo jack to left, Applebury smashed his second homer and his sixth RBI of the day on a solo homer that sailed over the center field fence, bringing the Aggies lead to 8-7.
  • After a one-out pop out to second for Caden Harris, Sepulveda came up clutch by crushing a solo shot out to left before Reed ended it on the ensuing at-bat.
