TOP PERFORMERS GAME NOTES
  • Southern Nazarene scored its 23 runs on 22 hits and committed five errors while the Evangels scored their 21 runs on 24 hits and made a pair of miscues.
  • The 24 hits recorded by the Evangels marked the second-most in a single game since the program joined the NAIA in 2008, sitting only behind the record of 26 notched against Bacone on Feb. 20, 2020.
  • The 21 runs scored by the Evangels also found its mark in the MACU record books as it went down as the fifth-best mark in the single-game list.
  • The five homers hit by MACU in the contest matched the NAIA Era single-game record for the seventh time and was the second time the Evangels ripped five home runs in a game this season after blasting five in a 9-8 walk-off win over Oklahoma Panhandle State on Mar. 5.
  • Senior catcher Yan Ely Adames broke the program's NAIA Era single-game hits record by slashing 6-for-7 with a double, a home run, three RBIs and three runs scored to go with a stolen base. The new mark surpassed a four-way tie with five with the last five-hit game coming off the bat of Isaiah Haddad in a 12-3 win over Northwestern (Iowa) on Mar. 3, 2021.
  • German Sepulveda was the leading run-producer for the MACU bats as he drove in a career-high five RBIs, four of which coming off a grand slam in the fifth inning. Sepulveda swatted 3-for-6 with a double and also scored three runs.
  • Andrew Enwiya also smashed his team-leading 11th home run of the season in the fifth, finishing 3-for-7 with a double, four RBIs and also scored three runs.
  • Overall, eight different MACU players recorded hits in the game with all eight tallying multiple hits and five players notched at least three hits.
  • Isaiah Leon batted 3-for-6 with a double, a homer, two RBIs and scored three times to go with a stolen bag while Austin Wood was the other three-hit batter by slashing 3-for-7 with a double, two RBIs and a run.
  • Mid-America Christian trailed by as much as 8-2 after three innings, but the Evangels put together an unbelievable rally in the fifth inning as the Evangels pushed across a season-high 14 runs in the frame to claim a 16-8 lead. Three of MACU's five homers were also ripped during the frame.
  • The Evangels led by as much as nine at 19-10 following a three-run Devon Villanueva home run in the sixth and then again at 20-11 after Adames smashed a solo dinger to right in the top of the eighth.
  • Southern Nazarene made a monstrous comeback by scoring nine unanswered runs as a two-RBI triple by Colby Entwistle in the ninth tied the game at 20-20, sending it into extras.
  • MACU was able to jump back in-front in the top of the 10th when Adames slapped a single through the hole at short with runners at first and second, plating pinch-runner Christian Guevara to make it a 21-20 game.
  • With runners at first and third and one out in the bottom of the 10th, Cole Embrey smashed the walk-off three-run homer over the center field fence to wrap-up the 23-21 final.
  • The Evangels pitching staff struggled to slow down a Crimson Storm batting order that ripped seven home runs in the contest.
  • MACU struggled to slow down the red-hot bat of Entwistle, who went 3-for-6 with a triple, two homers and seven RBIs to go with a pair of runs.
  • Embrey also proved to be a tough bat to stop as he went 2-for-6 with both his hits leaving the yard for five RBIs and a pair of runs.
UP NEXT
  • Mid-America Christian will return to Sooner Athletic Conference play with a doubleheader on Friday as the Evangels will open a three-game series at Texas Wesleyan. The opening game is slated for a 1 p.m. first pitch at Sycamore Park in Fort Worth, Texas.
