Baseball Drops Pair at No. 14 Science & Arts

CHICKASHA, Okla. – The Mid-America Christian baseball team struggled to get the bats going against No. 14 Science & Arts at Bill Smith Ballpark as the Evangels fell in both games of the doubleheader 4-1 and 7-1 on Saturday.

  • Science & Arts scored its four runs on six hits and committed an error while the Evangels scored their lone run on four hits and made two miscues.
  • Senior starting pitcher Frensly Leito suffered his first loss of the season on the mound, allowing four runs, three earned on six hits, one walk and struck out four in five innings of work.
  • The lone Evangels run came off the bat of Ryan Reed with two outs in the top of the seventh, drilling his fourth home run of the season on a solo shot to right.
  • Three of the four Evangels hits were of the extra base variety as Blake Diggle and Austin Wood also smacked doubles in the contest.
  • Trailing 1-0, MACU had a golden opportunity with runners at the corners and no one out, but Payton Walk was thrown out at home on a fielder's choice groundout to third and after moving runners to second and third with two outs later in the inning, pinch-hitter German Sepulveda came up empty with a strikeout to end the inning.
  • The Drovers scored an insurance run in the bottom of the fourth on a wild pitch with runners at second and third with two outs on a wild pitch before Luis Pelayo came up with a two-run home run in the fifth to give the Drovers their largest lead at 4-0.
