Baseball Swept by SAGU in Senior Day Doubleheader

OKLAHOMA CITY – The Mid-America Christian baseball team put up a tough fight against Southwestern Assemblies of God at the MACU Baseball Field, but the Evangels came up just short 4-1, 3-1 in a pair of doubleheader defeats on Senior Day Saturday.

TOP PERFORMERS GAME NOTES
  • Southwestern Assemblies of God scored its four runs on five hits and committed one error while the Evangels scored their lone run on four hits and tallied a pair of errors.
  • Despite suffering the loss in his final home start, senior pitcher Frensly Leito threw a very strong six innings, allowing just two unearned runs on three hits with three walks and seven strikeouts.
  • With those seven strikeouts, Leito boosted his season total to 93, supplanting Arcangel Soto (92, 2019) for the fourth-most in a single-season in the NAIA Era.
  • Senior outfielder Yan Ely Adames led the MACU bats by going 1-for-3 and scored the lone Evangels run on a wild pitch after ripping his first triple of the season on a line drive to center field.
  • Mid-America Christian had a golden opportunity to score the tying run in the bottom of the sixth when Payton Walk smashed a deep ball to left-center field with two outs, however SAGU center fielder Cade Dorethy made a stunning lay-out grab at the warning track to rob Walk of at least an RBI double to end the inning.
  • Senior second baseman Andres Gonzalez and redshirt freshman first baseman Devon Villanueva were the only Evangels to reach base twice as Gonzalez finished 1-for-2 with a single and a walk while Villanueva also went 1-for-2 with a single and a hit-by-pitch.
  • At the conclusion of the contest, Mid-America Christian held a ceremony to honor its seven graduating seniors: Yan Adames, Christian Ballard, Joshua Fernandez, Andres Gonzalez, David Lechuga, Frensly Leito and Cameron Matherly.

  • Despite suffering the loss, junior starter Zane Robeaux had a quality start, giving up only three earned runs on five hits with five walks and six strikeouts over six innings of work.
  • MACU closer Kelton Lachelt also tossed a scoreless inning of relief in the seventh, allowing just one hit between three groundouts.
  • Isaiah Leon was the lone MACU bat that had any success against the Lions as he notched both of the Evangels hits, finishing 2-for-3 with an RBI and a stolen base.
  • By suffering the two losses, it was the first time the Evangels had ever been swept by SAGU in a three-game series.
UP NEXT
  • Mid-America Christian will play its final home games of the regular season on Tuesday, Apr. 26 as the Evangels will host Randall for a non-conference home doubleheader. The opening game is slated for a 1 p.m. first pitch.
