Softball Sweeps Dallas Christian to Wrap-Up Regular Season

PLANO, Texas – The Mid-America Christian softball team continued to swing red-hot bats in its regular season finale at Dallas Christian as the Evangels topped the Crusaders 13-5, 13-2 at the John Paul II High School Softball Field on Tuesday.

TOP PERFORMERS GAME NOTES
  • Mid-America Christian scored its 13 runs on eight hits and committed two errors while Dallas Christian pushed across five runs on nine hits and made six miscues.
  • Despite being out-hit in the contest; the Evangels were opportunistic in getting nine players to reach via a walk or hit-by-pitch while the MACU pitching staff allowed just one walk over five innings of work.
  • MACU rallied back from a second-inning deficit by scoring seven runs in the top of the third.
  • Rachel Humburg and Mikaylee Allen led the MACU bats with a pair of hits apiece as Humburg finished 2-for-3 with a double, an RBI and two runs scored while Mikaylee Allen slashed 2-for-4 with a pair of runs scored and stole three bases.
  • Olivia Roberts and Megan Widener each drove in a pair for the Evangels. Roberts two RBIs came on a two-run home run in the top of the seventh, her first home run of the season. The junior first baseman batted 1-for-2 with a pair of runs scored to go with a walk. Meanwhile, Widener finished 1-for-1 with a run scored and drew a pair of walks.
  • Rachel Eggleston picked up her 15th win of the season after allowing five unearned runs on nine hits with a walk and two strikeouts over 3.2 innings of work. Eggleston is just the fifth MACU pitcher to record 15 wins in the circle in a season and is just one back of Amber Tinney (2014) and Regan Martin (2019) for the third-most in a single-season in the NAIA Era (2008-present).
  • Avery Schneringer also tossed 1.1 innings of shutout relief, recording one strikeout while not allowing a single baserunner.

PITCHING DECISION SCORING SUMMARY TOP PERFORMERS GAME NOTES
  • Mid-America Christian scored its 13 runs on eight hits and committed one error while the Crusaders scored their two runs on three hits and notched five errors.
  • Once again, the Evangels were able to utilize a huge third inning by pushing across eight runs in the frame.
  • Rachel Humburg led the MACU bats by going 2-for-3 and narrowly missed hitting a grand slam with a three RBI double hit off the top of the wall to go with three runs and reached on a hit-by-pitch.
  • Humburg's 18th double of the season moved her into a five-way tie for fourth on MACU's single-season doubles record list.
  • MACU was once again patient from the plate as the Evangels drew seven walks and a hit-by-pitch while the pitching platoon of Avery Schneringer and Rian Mann didn't allow a single walk or hit-by-pitch in five innings of work.
  • With the Evangels getting the win, MACU swept the season-series against Dallas Christian after tallying 12-4 and 8-0 wins at Allen Field on Mar. 2.
  • Mid-America Christian wrapped up the regular season with a 30-20 overall record, notching the program's fourth 30-win season in the last five years with the lone exemption being the COVID-19 shortened 2020 campaign. MACU also ended the regular season by winning 12 of its last 14 games.
UP NEXT
  • Mid-America Christian will now prepare for the Sooner Athletic Conference Tournament that will be split between the sites at Ann Lacy Stadium on the campus of Oklahoma City and Bill Smith Ballpark at Science & Arts in Chickasha, Okla. from May 5-7. The Evangels will await to see where they will compete with SAC play wrapping up this week.
