OKLAHOMA CITY – After going 2-1 in its season-opening tournament, the Mid-America Christian volleyball team will compete in its second-straight tourney as the Evangels will head to Hastings, Neb. for a four-match slate at the Hastings College Tournament on Friday and Saturday.

The Evangels will open the tourney against a pair of Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference (KCAC) foes on Friday in Bethel (Kan.) at 2 p.m. and Kansas Wesleyan at 6 p.m. MACU will wrap-up the event with matchups against York (Neb.) at noon and Presentation (S.D.) at 4 p.m. on Saturday.

• Team Notes:
  • MACU opened the season with its host tournament, the MACU/USAO Cruisin' Classic inside the Gaulke Activity Center on Aug. 19-20. The Evangels went 2-1, picking up a pair of 3-1 wins against Wiley (Texas) and Tabor (Kan.) before dropping a hard-fought 3-2 decision to Oklahoma Wesleyan.
  • The Evangels greatly out-hit their opponents in the three-match affair, tallying 164 kills on a .203 attack percentage while limiting their opponents to only 130 kills on a .179 clip.
  • Competing in her first three matches as an Evangel, freshman outside hitter Lauryn Walters was a bright spot for MACU in the event, finishing with a team-high 36 kills on a .284 attack percentage. Walters was especially key in the match against OKWU, notching 18 kills on a .533 hitting clip.
  • Freshman setter Casady McKinney also provided a big spark for MACU off the bench, dishing out 62 assists to go with five service aces.
  • Junior setter Lena Stockhammer notched double-doubles in all three matches over the weekend and narrowly missed a triple-double in the win over Tabor with 19 assists, 11 kills and nine digs.
