Women’s Soccer Faces Friends in First Road Matchup

OKLAHOMA CITY – The Mid-America Christian women's soccer team will head to Wichita, Kan. for its first road matchup of the 2022 season as the Evangels take on the Friends Falcons for a 6 p.m. kickoff at Adair-Austin Stadium on Saturday.

    • Mid-America Christian hung tough against an NCAA Division I opponent in its season-opener before the Evangels fell 1-0 to Tulsa at home on Aug. 18.
    • Junior goalkeeper Makayla Farquharson had a strong showing in her MACU debut, recording 10 saves on a .769 save percentage while the Evangels defense limited the Golden Hurricane to just three goals on 29 shot attempts.
    • Senior forward Kadin Stinson and sophomore forward Annika Gerdau were the lone Evangels able to muster shots against a formidable Tulsa defense in the contest while Gerdau's attempt was on-target.
    • Tulsa was the first of two NCAA Division I opponents the Evangels will face in 2022 as MACU will head to Oral Roberts (Okla.) on Sept. 15.

    • Friends will be playing its first home match of the season after coming off a 2-1 road loss at Baker on Tuesday. Freshman forward Hanon Nakagami netted the Falcons first goal of the season in the third minute, but Friends conceded goals in the 34th and 37th minutes in the defeat.
    • The Falcons are coming off an 11-6-3 record in 2021 and qualified for the NAIA Opening Round before seeing their season come to an end in a 2-0 loss at No. 6 John Brown (Ark.) on Nov. 18, 2021.
    • Mid-America Christian and Friends will be playing each other for just the fourth time in the two programs' histories. The last time the two teams met, the Evangels won a high scoring 5-3 thriller that involved six goals scored in the first half.
    • In that matchup, the Evangels took a 4-2 lead into the halftime break as Jasmine Morales booted in the game-winner in the 44th minute to send MACU into the half with a two-goal advantage. Kyleigh Rushing netted a pair of goals while Kelsey Henry and Abigail McCain also broke into the scoring column.
    • It is just the second time MACU will be competing against the Falcons in Wichita. The last time the two teams met at Friends, the Evangels came away with a 2-0 road victory on Sept. 18, 2013. In the win, Kaci Power booted in the game-winner in the 18th minute while Chelsea Swisher gave MACU an insurance goal in the 84th minute. The Evangels held a commanding 30-8 shot advantage in the 90-minute match.
