Volleyball Tackles Top 25 Matchups against No. 10 SAGU, No. 24 Texas Wesleyan

OKLAHOMA CITY – The Mid-America Christian volleyball team is ready for its biggest home challenges of the season as the Evangels host No. 10 Southwestern Assemblies of God (Texas) and No. 24 Texas Wesleyan this weekend inside the Gaulke Activity Center. MACU will take on the Lady Lions at 7 p.m. on Friday before facing the Lady Rams at 1 p.m. on Saturday.

    • Mid-America Christian is coming off a pair of strong wins at home last week, including a three-set sweep (26-24, 25-17, 25-9) win over Southwestern Christian on Sep. 6 before claiming a 3-1 win over Oklahoma City on Sept. 8.
    • Junior setter and right side hitter Lena Stockhammer put together a monstrous week offensively and defensively for MACU, tallying a double-double with 11 kills and 12 assists against the Eagles before notching her second career-triple double against the Stars, narrowly missing triple 20s with 17 kills, 27 assists and 20 digs in the victory.
    • Offensively, the Evangels played one of their best matches in program history against OCU. The 67 kills notched by the Evangels set the program's four-set match record and was the third-most kills in a single match while the 66 assists on those 67 kills were tied for the most in a single match, regardless of length.
    • One player MACU will be hoping to utilize more in the attack is senior middle blocker Vanessa Moreira. In last week's matches, Moreira tallied 17 kills and committed only one attack error for a .500 attack percentage.

    • The Lady Lions have boasted wins against teams either currently ranked or receiving votes in the NAIA Top 25 teams, including: No. 6 Corban (Ore.) and (RV) Loyola (La.).
    • The Lady Lions have been led in the attack by a pair of strong strikers in Ava Meyers and Emma Tompkins, who are each averaging more than three kills per set at 3.15 and 3.13 respectively.
    • While SAGU does hold a 36-7 lead in the all-time series, the two teams have split the season series the past two seasons. The Evangels have won both matches in five sets in the Gaulke Activity Center the last two seasons as the Evangels won a thrilling 15-13 game in set five in last season's meeting on Oct. 22, 2021.

    • Texas Wesleyan features an incredibly balanced attack with eight players tallying at least a kill per set with junior outside hitter Lauren Crismore leading the team at 2.39 kills per set.
    • The Lady Rams are a phenomenal defensive team, ranking 11th in the NAIA in digs per set (18.47) while also tallying the 33rd-most blocks per set (2.06).
    • Mid-America Christian will be seeking its first win against TWU. Last season, the Evangels were able to get off to a fast start in each match, taking the opening set before the Lady Rams came away with a pair of 3-1 victories.
