Women’s Soccer Hosts Wayland Baptist in SAC Opener on Futbol Fiesta Night

OKLAHOMA CITY – The Mid-America Christian women's soccer team will be looking to right the ship with the start of Sooner Athletic Conference play on Tuesday night as the Evangels host Wayland Baptist (Texas) for Futbol Fiesta Night at the Dill Soccer Field. The match is slated for a 5 p.m. kickoff.

    • Mid-America Christian put up one of its best offensive matches of the season in a 2-1 loss at Missouri Baptist, tallying the second-most shots on-goal in a match this season with nine off of 10 total shots.
    • The goal scored by Jasie Eischen was her first career collegiate goal and became the seventh different Evangels player to score a goal in the 2022 season.
    • With an assist on the score, Kadin Stinson became the first MACU player to tally multiple assists on the season with two.
    • After playing a challenging non-conference schedule, Mid-America Christian will be looking to try to get back on-track in SAC play after going 1-7 in non-conference play.
    • As a part of Hispanic Heritage Month, the Evangels will be holding a Futbol Fiesta night in the north parking lot of the Dill Soccer Field. As part of the celebration, there will be a dunk tank, axe throwing, a food truck, a t-shirt giveaway to the first 150 fans, free attendance for any high school athletes that wear their soccer jerseys as well as performances by the Ballet Folklorico Xochipilli dancers between games.

    • After a tough start to the season, going 0-3-2 through the first five games, Wayland Baptist is coming off its first win of the season, a 1-0 victory over Huston Tillotson (Texas) on Sept. 17.
    • The Pioneers have struggled in the attack, scoring just 0.67 goals on 8.0 shots per game.
    • Defensively, Wayland Baptist is led by All-SAC Second Team goalkeeper Kanade Morita, who has been challenged in non-conference play with a 2.17 goals allowed average, but has made 34 saves on a .723 save percentage.
    • The all-time series has been tightly contested between the two programs with both teams tallying seven wins in their previous 17 meetings. While Wayland won the previous outing in a 2-1 affair in Plainview, Texas on Oct. 19, 2021, the Evangels dominated the previous meeting at the Dill Soccer Field on Mar. 6, 2021. In that match, the Evangels scored goals from Kyleigh Rushing, Kelsey Henry and Liz Lozano while Jennifer Starwalt recorded four saves in the shutout win.
