Women’s Soccer Seeks to Tame Tigers on Saturday

OKLAHOMA CITY – Coming off a tie to Wayland Baptist in its Sooner Athletic Conference opener, the Mid-America Christian women's soccer team will be seeking its first SAC win as the Evangels host Central Christian at the Dill Soccer Field on Saturday.

    • Despite being held to a scoreless shutout, Mid-America Christian dominated the possession against Wayland Baptist on Tuesday, outshooting the Pioneers by a 24-9 margin with a 5-2 edge in shots on-goal.
    • The Evangels were especially dominant in the second half, holding a 14-3 shooting edge while all five of MACU's on-target attempts came in the final 45 while WBU failed to muster a single on-goal shot in the half.
    • Junior goalkeeper Makayla Farquharson earned her first shutout as starting keeper for MACU, tallying a pair of saves, including a phenomenal finger-tip save to redirect a shot toward the top right off the crossbar in the 27th minute.
    • That draw for the Evangels was the team's first tie match since the 2019 campaign when MACU went into Plainview, Texas and forced a 1-1 draw on Oct. 1.

    • Central Christian enters the match with a 4-4 record and an 0-1 mark in Sooner Athletic Conference play after suffering a 1-0 loss to Southwestern Christian on Lorall Romain's game-winner scored in the 26th minute. In the defeat, the Eagles outshot the Tigers by a 20-8 margin and an 11-4 edge in shots on-goal.
    • While the Tigers are averaging 3.13 goals per game, 17 of CCCK's 25 goals were netted in a 10-0 win over Randall (Okla.) on Sept. 21 and a 7-0 victory over Texas College on Sept. 10.
    • Five different Tigers have netted three or more goals, led by junior forward Aliyah Moya with five on the season.
    • While MACU holds an 8-4 lead in the all-time series against Central Christian, Mid-America Christian has dominated the series of late, scoring six straight victories and have won eight of the last nine games. Last season, MACU picked up a 1-0 win at the Dill Soccer Field on Nov. 9 off of Kyleigh Rushing's game-winner in the 63rd minute.
    • The Evangels also faced the Tigers in postseason play last year as the two teams battled for the NCCAA Central Region Championship on Nov. 19. In that match, MACU got scores in the 16th minute from Mia Willyerd before Paola Camacho booted in the game-winner in the 47th minute as the Evangels held on for their fifth regional title in a 2-1 result.
