Women’s Soccer Makes Way to Mid-America Nazarene for Non-Conference Match

OKLAHOMA CITY – Coming off its first win of the season, the Mid-America Christian women's soccer team will be seeking its first road victory of the season as the Evangels head to Olathe, Kan. to take on MidAmerica Nazarene on Wednesday afternoon.

    • Mid-America Christian put together a strong offensive performance in its first win of the season against the University of the Southwest on Labor Day as the Evangels scored three goals on 22 shots with 14 shots being placed on-goal.
    • In the win, Annika Gerdau opened the scoring with an incredible 38-yard rocket shot that found the top left corner of the goal to give MACU the 1-0 lead. Four minutes later Mia Willyerd booted in the game-winner to swell the Evangels' edge to 2-nil.
    • After taking a 2-1 advantage into the half, Francesca Martella scored the lone second half goal on a 40-yard free kick shot that slipped through the goalkeeper's hands and into the back of the net in the 65th minute.
    • Makayla Farquharson notched her first goalie win for MACU as she only conceded one goal and notched three saves for a .750 save percentage.

    • In MNU's 8-0 season-opening win against Ottawa (Kan.), freshman striker Sarah Assumma recorded a hat trick with three goals in 63 minutes of on-field play.
    • The Pioneers are coming off a 6-10-1 season in 2021, but boasted a 6-5-1 record in Heart of America Conference play.
    • While MNU holds a 3-1 edge in the all-time series, the Evangels won their last meeting in the two team's season-opener at the Dill Soccer Field on Aug. 28, 2021. In that win, Mia Willyerd netted the lone goal in the 63rd minute, the first career goal in her collegiate career as she propelled the Evangels to the 1-0 victory.
    • Mid-America Christian will be seeking its first win over the Pioneers in Olathe. The last time the Evangels faced MidAmerica Nazarene on the road, the Pioneers came away with the 2-0 win on Nov. 10, 2007.
