Women’s Soccer Slams Panhandle State on Senior Night

OKLAHOMA CITY – The MACU women's soccer team wrapped up its final regular season home match on a high note on Monday night as the Evangels ran away with a dominant 5-0 victory against Oklahoma Panhandle State on its Senior Night at the Dill Soccer Field

SCORING SUMMARY MATCH SUMMARY
  • After having a couple of on-target tries in the early going, Mid-America Christian (12-2-1, 5-1-2 SAC) pushed across the winning goal in the sixth minute when Gladis Avalos won a ball away from an OPSU midfielder before breaking away down the left. Lofting a deep shot toward the right side, Aggies goalkeeper Mya Szymanski was unable to corral the one-hopper as Bruna Faleiro punched in the rebounded shot inside the left post to set the score to 1-nil.
  • Just three minutes later, the Evangels added to it, this time off another play made by Faleiro. Taking an out-swinging corner from the right side, Faleiro's send into the box found the head of Kadin Stinson on the left side, redirecting the header into the right side of the goal where an OPSU defender was unable to clear it as MACU swelled its lead out to 2-0.
  • Less than two minutes later, Faleiro had a great chance to get on the brace when Annika Gerdau broke down the left side and lofted a perfect cross for Faleiro on the right side. However, Szymanski made an incredible save on Faleiro's rocket toward the right side, getting just enough of the shot to push it off the right post before it was cleared out by the Oklahoma Panhandle State (2-12, 0-8 SAC) defense.
  • In the 22nd minute, MACU extended its lead to three when Silvia Cinque retrieved a cleared ball in the midfield before booting a deep send down the left side for the run of Avalos. Dribbling into the left side of the box uncontested, Avalos slipped her shot inside the left post out of the reach of the keeper to make it a 3-0 game.
  • The Evangels did have one more great chance to add to their lead in the 39th minute when Cinque found Alison Mora with a right-side cross into the top of the 18-yard box, however, Mora's attempt pinged off the middle of the crossbar before Stinson's rebound sailed wide right, keeping the MACU edge to 3-nil heading into the halftime break.
  • Right out of the gate in the second half, Mid-America Christian capitalized on its first opportunity. After Madison Chavez received a deep send and got past the defense on the right side, her initial shot toward the right post was saved by Szymanski. However, Annika Gerdau was able to run down the open rebound on the left side of the box and punch in a left-footed put-back just past a defender trying to cover, setting the score to 4-nil.
  • In the 58th minute, Francesca Martella had a chance to head in a goal off a Faleiro right-side corner kick, but her attempt toward the left post was cleared off the line by a defender before Chavez had her follow-up header blocked and cleared away as well before Faleiro's new follow-up sailed wide left of goal.
  • In the 72nd minute, Martella made her mark on the scoreboard when Cammy Hargrove took an incredible free kick from the right side on MACU's side of midfield, lofting a deep ball into the middle of the box. Getting to the foot of Avalos, she quickly relayed a pass to Martella, who easily punched her shot through to the right post to cap off the scoring at 5-0.
