Women’s Soccer to Wrap-Up Regular Season at Oklahoma City

OKLAHOMA CITY – The MACU women's soccer team will close out the regular season with a massive Sooner Athletic Conference match as the Evangels will head uptown to take on current league-leader Oklahoma City for a 5 p.m. kickoff at Brian Harvey Field on Friday.

    • Mid-America Christian put together a strong all-around performance in its final regular season home match at the Dill Soccer Field on Monday, cruising to a 5-0 victory over Oklahoma Panhandle State on Senior Night.
    • Offensively, the Evangels finished with their second-most shot attempts (34) while tallying double-digit shots on-goal for the eighth time this season.
    • Five different Evangels netted goals in the win as Gladis Avalos and Kadin Stinson each netted their team-leading sixth scores of the season while Francesca Martella tallied her fifth score of the year.
    • Chavez, Bruna Faleiro and Annika Gerdau each tallied their team-leading sixth assists on the season. By scoring a goal and an assist in the victory, Faleiro became the seventh different Evangels player to tally 10 or more points.

    • Oklahoma City is coming off a huge win on Tuesday as the Stars defeated Southwestern Assemblies of God 2-1 to lock up one of the top two seeds in the SAC Tournament while the Stars briefly move into first in the SAC standings with a 7-1 (21 points) record.
    • While the Stars sit at the top of the standings, OCU ranks just sixth in the conference in scoring at 2.27 goals per game while allowing the fourth-fewest goals at a 1.10 goals allowed average.
    • A bulk of the OCU offense runs through its sophomore midfielder Abby Russell, who leads the team with nine goals and six assists for 24 points while Reese Roberts is the only other double-digit scorer for the Stars with 13 points off five goals and three dimes.
    • Even though Oklahoma City leads the all-time series, Mid-America Christian has been the stronger team as of late as the Evangels have won four of the last five with their last meeting ending in a 2-2 tie at the Dill Soccer Field on Oct. 22. In that match, MACU rallied from a two-goal deficit, as Cammy Hargrove netted the Evangels' first goal in the 65th minute before Kanasa Spybuck headed in the equalizer with 8:05 left in the match.
