GRAND PRAIRIE, Texas – The MACU men's and women's cross country teams smashed some program records at the Dallas Baptist Old Glory Gallop being run at Lynn Creek Park on Saturday.
The MACU men's team came away with a 20th place in the loaded 28-team field with a score of 632 in the 8000-meter event. MACU's 1-5 team time came in as 2:19:09, easily setting the NCCAA Division I National Championship qualifying mark of 2:26:56. The total team mark also boosts the Evangels into the NCCAA Top 10, moving into the eighth-fastest time at the Division I level.
Freshman Mason Baker shattered the MACU 8k program record, crossing the finish line in 26:18.0 to place 100th out of 293 runners in the meet. The time eclipsed the previous program record held by Abraham Busienei, who turned in a time of 26:39.67 at the Missouri Southern Stampede on Sept. 19, 2009.
Freshman Jackson White also not only put together a personal record, but also set the third-fastest 8k time in program history with a 27:34.40. Ryland Baker also turned in a PR and set a top 10 time of 28:10.3, making it the ninth-fastest 8k time in MACU cross country history.
Jason McKamie and Ethan Hillis rounded MACU's top five finishers as McKamie crossed the line for a personal-best of 28:27.0 and Hillis turned in a time of 28:40.1.
Sophomore women's runner Gracie Sanders continued to cement her name at the top of MACU's record books. After setting the program's 6k record time of 24:21.3 at the Oklahoma State Cowboy Jamboree on Sept. 23, Sanders obliterated the program's 5k record mark after crossing the finish line in 18:44.30 to finish 29th in the 287-competitor meet.
Not only did it set another NCCAA National Championship qualifying mark, but her new time also moved her all the way up to eighth in the NCCAA.
Freshman Ivy Moffat also completed her first ever MACU cross country race, turning in a time of 26:20.6.
Mid-America Christian will have one last dress rehearsal before the Sooner Athletic Conference Championships as the Evangels will next run at the Southwestern College Mid-States Classic in Winfield, Kansas on Oct. 21.
