No. 16 Women’s Basketball Closes Out 2023 at Home to Rival Science & Arts

OKLAHOMA CITY – The No. 16 MACU women's basketball team will wrap-up the 2023 portion of its season at home on Monday as the Evangels will face off against rival Science & Arts for a 6 p.m. tip-off inside the Gaulke Activity Center.

    • Mid-America Christian wrapped up its three-game road stand to start Sooner Athletic Conference play with a tough contest at Texas Wesleyan on Dec. 7. After getting off to a tough start, trailing for nearly the entire first half and was down by as much as seven, however, MACU rallied in the third quarter by putting together a 13-1 before holding off a late TWU rally for the 56-54 win.
    • MACU will be looking to clean things up on the offensive end after committing a season-high 25 turnovers while shooting just 36.8 percent from the field, 22.2 percent from three and 50 percent from the free throw line in the win.
    • However, the Evangels' defense has carried them through the rough offensive patch, holding the Lady Rams to 56 points, marking the fifth time MACU has held an opponent to fewer than 60 points while holding the Lady Rams to their second-worst field goal percentage of the season at 32.8 percent.
    • The Evangels reliable duo of Jaci Calavan and Shy Christopher played the biggest role in MACU's win over the Lady Rams, combining to score 37 of the Evangels' 56 points while also pulling down 20 of 42 MACU rebounds.

    • Science & Arts is coming off its biggest road win of the season at Southwestern Christian on Saturday as the Drovers cruised to a 92-64 victory. USAO had a pair of 20-point scorers in Lainey Morrow (23) and Diaka Berete (20).
    • Currently sitting at the top of the SAC standings with a 3-0 record, the Drovers are the second-highest scoring offense in the league at 76.4 ppg while ranking the middle of the pack in scoring defense at seventh with 63.2 ppg allowed.
    • Morrow leads the offensive efforts for USAO as the second-best scorer in the league at 20.6 ppg, posting by far and away the best shooting percentage in the conference at 66.4 percent. Diaka Berete has also been a strong scorer for the Drovers at 10.9 ppg while Jordan Bloomfield has been USAO's biggest outside threat with 22 made threes at 46.8 percent.
    • The rivalry between the Evangels and Drovers has been a tightly contested one with the two teams trading the last eight meetings. The last time the two teams met inside the USAO Fieldhouse on Feb. 2, the Evangels put together a dominant performance for a 77-56 victory. Shy Christopher and Jaci Calavan put up especially big games with Christopher pouring in 28 points to go with seven boards while Calavan scoring 22 points featuring six made three-pointers.
