Baseball Drops Doubleheader to No. 14 Texas Wesleyan

OKLAHOMA CITY – The MACU baseball team couldn't contain the top hitting team in the SAC as the Evangels fell 15-0 and 11-6 to No. 14 Texas Wesleyan at the MACU Baseball Field on Saturday to just miss out on the opportunity to claim their first league regular season title.

GAME NOTES
  • Mid-America Christian finished with six hits and committed two errors while Texas Wesleyan tallied 15 runs on 17 hits.
  • The Rams wasted no time getting on the board scoring four runs in the first behind an RBI single from Greyson Barrett followed by a three-run homer from Jonathan Pena. The Rams capitalized in the second inning scoring three more runs as Barrett drove in his second run of the game on a single through the right side to go along with another Texas Wesleyan homer from Kevin Santiago drove in two runs to take a 7-0 lead at the end of two.
  • After being contained for three straight innings, Texas Wesleyan got the offense going again in the late innings, scoring four in the sixth on two more home runs and four in the seventh to finish off game one, 15-0.
  • MACU had its chances throughout the game, however, the Evangels failed to take advantage with runners on base. MACU left two runners on base in each of the first three innings and left the bases loaded twice.
  • Conner McKinney was one of two Evangels with multiple hits as McKinney went 2-for-4 with a double.
  • Carlos Medina became the other Evangel to secure a multi-hit day as Medina went 2-for-3 from the plate.
  • Ryan Reed batted 1-for-3 and started his day with a leadoff double in the first, but MACU was unsuccessful in pushing him across.
  • Issac Baez had a rough outing in 5.2 innings of work, allowing a season-high 10 runs, six earned, on a season-high 13 hits with five strikeouts.
  • The Evangels were shutout for just the fourth time this season and suffered their most lopsided loss of the year.

GAME NOTES
  • Mid-America Christian scored six runs on eight hits as Texas Wesleyan scored 11 runs on nine hits while both teams committed two errors.
  • The Rams picked up where they left off with a solo shot from Brandon Rincones in the top of the first. MACU came right back at the Rams pushing across two runs in the bottom frame of the first on a Carlos Medina single up the middle to give the Evangels its first lead of the day at 2-1.
  • After Texas Wesleyan tied it up in the second, MACU took the lead once again with another Medina single scoring Noel McGarry-Doyle, putting the Evangels out in-front 3-2.
  • In the fourth the Evangels stretched out their lead as Andrew Enwiya blasted a no-doubt, two-run bomb to left to make it a 5-2 game.
  • The Evangels maintained the advantage until the top of the sixth when the Rams unleashed seven runs behind two separate three-run home runs from Carson Cheany and Greyson Barrett. The Rams tacked on two more runs in the seventh on a Logan Silvertooth double to stretch the Rams lead to 11-5.
  • Down to its final three outs, Yan Ely Adames drove in McGarry-Doyle with a single through the left side, giving MACU its final run of the game in the 11-6 defeat.
  • Carlos Medina notched a season-high for hits, going a perfect 4-for-4 with three RBIs.
  • Andrew Enwiya slashed 1-for-4 with his ninth home run of the season to go along with two RBIs and a run scored.
  • Yan Ely Adames went 1-for-3 with an RBI, marking his 34th of the season.
  • Cameron Brown was putting together a quality start up until the sixth inning. Brown held the Rams scoreless in three straight innings until Texas Wesleyan broke things open in the sixth inning. Over 5.1 innings of work, Brown allowed six runs, five earned, on six hits with three walks and six strikeouts.
  • By scoring his 55th run of the season, McGarry-Doyle moved into second for most runs scored in a season in the NAIA Era, matching Antonio Dorado (2018) in the books.
  • With the loss, MACU dropped its 13th straight game against Texas Wesleyan while also missing out on the opportunity to win the league title.
